fooled ya! :P
A few days ago I took some of my favorites things like 50 lbs. of gear 2 dogs, 2 children and mrs dirty. up to the BFT. Well my first mistake was not looking closely at the topo map. I figured 1500 ft gain in elevation was not bad for a 3 mile stretch but I didnt look closely enough to realise that it was all in a 3/4 mile area. misteak 2 was carrying 50 lbs up same hill in 90 degree weather.

Then came the big oop's. I got careless while tramping thru a bog and slipped on a rock. Down went 300 lbs of muscle and gear all to land on one little 6 oz can of tomato paste I had packed for my chilli. The bruise on my hip isnt that big but goes all the way too the bone.

soooo... next day we hobble out go home and repack.

abandoning excess gear like 1 child 2 dogs and about 20 lbs of equipment we decided to try out the AFT.
Had a good hike BUT..... when I started the truck up to come home.... ALT. warning lamp was lit and the charge gauge was pinned on minus...At first I thought maybe a broken fan belt but noooooo!... turns out the alternator was shorted and was sucking the remaining power out of my battery. Well we got home after 2 sudden stops and a few helpfull people and a lot of finger crossing.

So now with my still very sore hip Im heading out to turn my wallet ultralight. At least inspite of the topo error my daughter loved the trip and dragged her current boy toy out for an adventure of their own.

You have to carry all the gear for everyone or what? I'd never pull that cr@p on my husband. Dogs and kids (past a certain age) carry their own too.

It was a hot week to hike with humid conditions too. I was wondering how you made out on the BFT. I went out on the WRT with Lyndy S, her husband and MSilver. We opted for the easier WRT because of the heat. I'll save the challenging hikes for the fall since I don't care for the heat much. Hope your hip heals fast.

Wrt!!!! why didnt ya invite us? :)
(whassa wrt any way?) Would have loved to meet yall.

re: boy toy

This particular one seems decent enough. Has a good job with the power company. She seems very happy so Im betting that she could do worse. She has certainly dated far worse but I think she intended to tweak my nose with some of those boys.

Im suspecting a wedding in my near future but keeping a ladder near the back of the house just in case. (its a type 1a just to be safe)

WRT is the West Rim Trail at the Grand Canyon of PA. We went from Thursday until Sat. and did 15 miles from Bradley Wales to Ansonia. Just a nice mild hike to check out the views. We figured you were already on the BFT, but we can do a hike down the road sometime.
