He's spending the next week at Scout Summer camp with 31 kids. He just got there and is convinced some of the youth staffers at that camp need to tested for drugs. The worst part is he's only about 1/2 hour away from GSMNP and he can't go there! At least he took his flyfishing gear. Ha!

Isn't it a shame that drugs are so rampant. Our company hired 4 greenhorns to work over the summer season...they all look zonked out...it's even worst after a weekend (probably boozing it up too). They and some of my friends (the horror) consider Mary Jane just a recreational drug...they say, "Don't worry...it has no side effects...and it's used for medicinal purposes too."

These are kids working at a Boy Scout summer camp. They are responsible for TEACHING other kids. Great message.

Someone needs to get the message through to these stoners. Alas, it's not an easy thing to do.
HPM being there should help to offset the example set by some of the others. Kids are pretty smart and have keen powers of observation.

Someone does need to help these kids and teach them about drugs... like the right way to hold the pipe and how to use visine to hide the red eyes. After all how will they be able to handle adult drugs like prozac If they arent taught by a responsible adult?

{:P , Hope HPM has a quiet trip.

Some of our youngest scouts are on prozac because their teachers say they can't pay attention. They're little boys for god's sake.

Just got an email from HPM. One of the boys was complaining last night of a big spider 1-2 feet fro mhis face, and his father said it was nothing and to go to sleep. Someone hit the flashlight and suprise! Big ol' widow! Right dad, not dangerous! I told HPM to teach the boys how to widow hunt at
night.
Lucky dog is also going whitewater rafting on thursday. I wanna go!

I'll be doing the same thing next week at Camp Buffalo Bill near Yellowstone. Not as many scouts though (15), and the grizzly bears are probably more to worry about than the spiders. Looking forward to a relaxing week in the mountains.

garfum, don't forget about the Mountain Lions and Wolves.

They say there are more Lions up there then there ever has been.

Two friends hunted them successfully up there last winter. The guide they were with got 13 out of 15 available.

Yeah, I'm sure. He's one of the good ones we've got. His dad is along for summer camp, supposed to be the outdoor type. Yeah, right, you can't identify a flippin' widow. In fact, that dad is spending today golfing, LOL!

treebait - exactly how do we detect a black widow?! HPM showed as how to detect spiders in general but I didn't know I could decipher species?

You need to know what they look like. They're really quite distinctive. Perhaps this will help Big Coop.

Geez - My mistake! - I know how to detect one in the light. I thought HPM was able to distinguish the Black Widow in the dark by reflective eye color or something.

Nope, widows are nocturnal. They nest up above the ground, but have a guy line going down to the ground where their hunting web is. I hunt them about 10 pm, with a flashlight and a can of raid. They are the only spider I willingly exterminate.

Kids are all doing great at camp, but a psycho b!tch mom with severe separation anx. disorder is driving those of us still at home nuts. She's convinced her son is being restrained and not allowed to call home. We finally forced him to call his mom. What did he say to her? " I didn't want to talk to you. I was having fun!" Ah, kids!

HPM and those stoned camp staffers are brain washing those good kids...see, they're rebellious already.

I'm just fine with this particular boy mildly rebelling against his mother. Best thing he could do.
