While I have nothing again hunters, some of my best friends hunt, I have often thought that for a month out of every hunting season they should allow you to hunt the hunters...you know, put the sport back into it....many of my friends are rather good at picking off a deer at 200 yards with a good scope, but I would love to go one on one with a few of them with just a pistol or knife, like in the old days

You know Ultra, a real man only hunts things that can hunt back, other wise it's just killing, not hunting.

Reminds me of a T-shirt I wore for awhile (a very short while)...
If it's tourist season, why can't we kill'em?

BTW...I know about hunting and killing, I grew up in Africa, and in the states, I use to hunt wild bore with a pistol ......and the killing part, well, that's just too easy.

That's why I choose not to kill anymore....

I could be persuaded to hunt again though....... but only if the "game" is worthy.

I Object....
Good for you Ultrapacker. I notice that all the deers on your wall are rack-less...I'm assuming that they are all females. That means you're not a trophy hunter, but a hunter for food.

Plus in the pic you're holding a compound bow...meaning it's takes more patience and technique to kill an animal. And you're most likely no more than 40 yards away when you released the arrow.

I read somewhere that today's youths are an "instant gratification crowd"...they have absolutely no patience and/or will power. Some of those social workers/psychologists say it's because we live in an urban environment and the art of the hunt is losted.

I don't think hunters who hunt for food consider it a sport. Throughout history, humans have hunted animals who can fight back, and those who can't...they are considered "real man" when they bring into a village a deer or lion.

Who are they to judge?
Some of you on this thread have commented that there are no racks on the deer, but how many have ever tried to stalk up within 20-30 yds of one? Hunting with a bow is almost as spiritual experiance as you can have. So as far as them being trophys, everyone of those deer is a trophy. I can also assume that you dont eat meat mtnsteve? Or are you just one of the all too many ignorant drumb pounders that hires out his killin' ? Now I'll tell you what, I'm a veteran, 3-75th RNG BAT 88-92, and I'm a bow hunter. So dont give me any ass about bein hunted back. The sacred flight of the arrow is a beautiful thing ULTRA, shoot straight.

Biggest display of compensation for a small #&%!$ I’ve ever seen. I can respect your choice to kill for meat but the gross egotism of having the heads done to hang on your wall? Mother Earth has a way of getting even ya know. Don’t be surprised when a twister hits your doublewide.

Did you “mount” each one of those or did you let your brother Bubba have a crack too? Sloppy seconds maybe?

That's a wall full allright.
I'm not a hunter myself for the shear fact that I don't have the heart to shoot anything. My Girlfriend's brother is a big time hunter and he keeps our freezer (and several others) stocked with plenty of deer meat. We just pay $40 for processing.
I just hunt with a camera.

Hey timberline, you REALLY think that is a picture with Ultra in it, He's a damn troll! I would wager the closest he ever got to actually hunting anything is finding his di-k in his pants.

My partner is a real hunter, with bow (makes his own "sticks") and rife..I know all about the spiritual aspect of it..I was responding to a DAMN TROLL.

I have been way closer than 20 yards to deer lots of times ...no big trick to it. I used to hunt and trap when I was young....I choose not to now. But I could If I really needed to.
Did you hide up in a tree for hours waiting for them to come to your salt lick...or did you do it like a man and track them on foot through the woods???

I like to keep them up there in my library, to remind me of being outside on the hunt.

Thats a sweet looking double wide and you must have some cash or know how to 'taxi' yourself because with close to 20 heads mounted that can be an expense if you have someone else doing it.

Troll, it sounds like you are from 'Zona, when did your state get so many WhiteTails and why no Mulies hanging up there? Do you hunt elsewhere and just have a fetish for white tail?

My two cents
A hunter who eats what he kills is different than a person who goes to the grocery store and buys a pound of ground beef. That person let someone else do the killing.

A hunter works for his meat. He is at one with nature and the game he is pursuing. The game actually have a fighting chance unlike the cattle and pigs lined up for slaughter, God gave deer superior hearing, vision and sense of smell.

I don't care if ULTRAPacker is a troll, if he eats what he kills he is a friend to all hunters. I doubt the men that work in a slaughter house do it because they like killing or that they do it because it makes them feel more like a man.

You hypocrites that will be eating burgers on the fourth could be eating venison instead. Hunting is a responsibility. Some people lack the patience, cunning and personal responsibility that it takes to be a hunter. This is what most non-hunters who complain about hunters lack.

You people who say you won't hunt an animal that can't fight back are just plain ignorant. Unless you want to beat the animal to death with your bear hands no animal has a chance to fight back. Cows and pigs don't have a chance to fight back yet you eat them.

I don't normally take deer for trophys and those that have been really nice, I have only mounted the rack, not the full head. So while I might disagree with the mounting of so many does, mostly from an economic standpoint, I would agree that any deer you take with a bow was hard won and worthy of note, it ain't easy. I love deer browsing in my yard, etc then I also love em on a plate. Kill em and grill em.

Don't sugar coat it. Lets face it, it's about the pleasure in killing something yourself. You may eat it or you may not but it's all about the killing. Some people prefer that someone else does it for them.

A person who hunts deer for food wouldn't mount the heads of his kills on his wall if he didn't take pleasure in the killing.

Ouch, bet that stung. Little cheap shot from a recurve shooter. I prefer compound myself. We have the technology, might as well use it. I like my pin sights too. although I draw the line at lighted sights, if you can't see the sight, its too dark to shoot, ya know.

Lift The Nose And Take A Wiff
In a bar in Pinedale, WY there's a gnarly looking beast with fiery eyes, ferocious looking teeth and a fuzzy nose mounted to the wall. And if you get up real close and ponder the question "What the he!! is it?", you'll come to the conclusion that it's a dear's butt mounted with eyes and teeth to look like a mystery beast.

actually I thought the picture was advertising for a taxi shop - ie a hunter brings in his rack and then the rack is added to one of the heads and the hunter goes home with his trophy a lot sooner than with the traditional method - other than the rack I find it hard to tell a doe's head from a buck's head - so the idea should work well.

stanlee - I used a 300mm lens for that shot. I was probably within 50ft of it. In Shenandoah NP, hunting is not permitted, so the deer are not as flighty as in other areas.

If you saw a decent buck's head at close range there is a lot of difference in the shape/size. Think about it they have to have the bone structure to support the antlers where a doe doesn't. Even the hair on the top of the head is different.
