Boots are the next item I'm looking to cut weight on. Right now I have a 3-lb. pair of Vasques. Built like tanks and weigh as much, too.

What's a good lighter weight, waterproof boot?

Comfort and short break-in period are important too. Vasque is great in this catagory but, 3 pounds.

New balance 803s. Super light, dry faster than a heart attack so you don’t need water proofing, and they have great traction. Boots equaling ankle support is a fallacy. They will only further weaken the ankles. Work on strengthening the ankles and there is no need for high boots.

Caution;only try the 803's if you have reduced your pack weight to under 30 lbs.
