Wildflower and I are planning a two-day hike from Delaware Water Gap to Kirkridge Shelter (Fox Gap) and back for the weekend of July 27/28. If anyone cares to join us on the trip, let us know here and we will get back to you.
For anyone who is not familiar with the area, the trail begins near Lake Lenape in the village of Delaware Water Gap on the Pennsylvania side. The trail climbs Mt. Minsi steeply with many views of the gap from rock outcroppings along the way. Once on top, the trail passes the site of the old fire tower, then follows the ridge of Blue Mountain with mild elevation changes to Fox Gap.
Total distance is five miles one way. This is meant to be a slow hike, not a marathon.
There is water at Fox Gap, but none until there, so plan to carry enough water for the day's hike.
Should be fun. Meet your fellow posters, trolls, newbies, and whatever else shows up.

Hey adventurist - let's carpool. It must be at least a 35 minute drive for me. ;o)

In any case, I am not sure about Sunday but I'm certain I can do something with you guys on Saturday.

Fritz - If I can only do a one-dayer, we'll work something out. Maybe shuttle some cars.

I'll be in Acadia NP the 12th to the 20th, but I'll check in here when I get back.

Looks good so far.
If anyone wants to just stop by camp, you can get within a tenth of a mile of the shelter by crossing the mountain on Pa. Route 191. Near the top of the mountain there is a gravel road heading east almost to the shelter. Follow the white blazes and look for a gaggle of goofy critters having fun.

I will post directions and other details for the trip starting next week. We are compiling a list of people who will join us from this and the other site. At this point it looks like a group of about a half dozen for the two days with a few more possibly joining us for one or both days.

Snow-shoeing? Oh, that's a good one Feen! I did check out the weather.com this afternoon, and while the heat index here is over 100, it was snowing in Barrow, Alaska.

Lurking? I've been pretty much non-existant on the net the last several weeks, but I'm back.

If anyone goes in from 191 at Fox Gap, just make sure you go to the Kirkridge SHELTER, not the Kirkridge RETREAT. Your life could change forever if you make the wrong turn. ;o)

Hey, if it is this hot, I may drive in and bring the beer and frozen margeritas. Didn't someone do a thread about a cooler in a wheelbarrow on the trail? Could I get shot at for doing something like that. Northerners are not very tolerant. You'd never hear them say "you got a perty mouth". It would sound more like "Wh__th__f$%& you doin you A##s&*%h@#$!!"

Contact me re hike
Please email me (click on name for email address) regarding this hike. At present, plans are being finalized and we need to start getting a head count of who is planning on going and who is planning on joining us for just a day.

The hike will be about 5.4 miles from the trailhead to the shelter. The shelter is .6 of a mile from Pa. Route 191, so anyone wanting to join us at the campsite will have to walk that far.

Once I have a list of names and return email directions we will firm up the plans and get back to you with directions.

Put me down as a probably for both days. I never know for sure unless I have purchased airline tickets. :)

Thanks for your planning on this, it sounds like fun.

Wild one, I believe you mean Sunfish Pond. :)

And I am not clear on the route but I don't think we will be passing Sunfish Pond. If we did, I believe you could swim there.

Lake Lenape is at the trailhead. I have never seen anybody swimming there, so I don't know. My understanding always was that it was private property, but I don't know that for sure. There are no other spots along the way.
Sunfish Pond is along the AT on the Jersey side. I think they have banned both camping and swimming there - too many people and trash.
Anybody else know anything?
Geobeet

Violin knows this MUCH more than I do....but yes, Sunfish Pond is too easy to get too, so they have had some problems up there. There are designated campsites near, but not at, the pond.

All I know about the pond is here. :)

Gotcha covered, kiddo!
USGS quad is the Stroudsburg quad if you know where you can get maps. If not, try the topozone.com site and use Delaware Water Gap to get the map. Toggle west to include from the Gap to Fox Gap. That will give you a map you can print if you have the capability.
If not, email me your snail mail address and I'll shoot you a B&W copy.

Hi I'm back! You all are too much of a riot, I've been splitting my sides reading this. I haven't looked at my maps to even see if they cover the area of this hike. I'll try to get to that tonight. WF, sorry that I didn't return your call today, I will call you tomorrow morning. Before we leave to go on this hike, I want to plant a beacon on you. Have you ever hiked with a lady named M&M?
