“Goretex was going to bring some kick-arse Aussie beer but he said it didn't arrive in time. They probably confiscated it thinking it was some substance terrorists might use. Doggone shame, too. I was looking forward to that.”

“It's been out in the open for several days, perhaps weeks now. Have not seen any negative statements, but how about it? Anybody have a problem?”

“I don't think we will have a prowler kind of thing here. I've already stated that if somebody is ill or injured that we will take care of them and do whatever it takes to get them help. That will not "ruin" the trip.

There will not be a whole lot of beer by my count. Should be just a group of people enjoying one another's company and sharing good times on the trail. If anybody is coming to pick a fight they're in the wrong group and should reconsider. But from the contacts I've had with folks, I think we have a group of great people who will not mind looking out for one another and plan to enjoy the trip.

We'll be okay WF, I promise. We'll look out for you. Gotta get you back to help those smiling kiddies!”

“I have no problem with folks having a few brewskies around the campfire, as long as (a) nobody gets loud and obnoxious (quiet and obnoxious is tolerable,) and (b) we make sure all the trash gets hauled out.

I hope that doesn't sound either demanding or condescending, I don't mean it either of those ways.

“Plans are already in place to haul trash out. My son will take care of it.

Quiet and obnoxious is good. There may be other hikers in the area who might want a quiet night, although I expect we'd invite them to join the party and they would probably accept.

Regardless, there are other people who stay nearby the area, so too loud would be out of place.

Re fire, I am not aware of restrictions, but it might be that it would be limited to the campfire ring. There are signboards at the trailheads, and I assume restrictions would be listed. There has been rain in the area this week and more is in the forecast for tomorrow morning.”

“It's like driving under the influence, get it?”

“Thats' a major tool they use to raise money for trail maintenance. You can get a $500 fine for "Backpacking Under the Influence."

Perhaps you are more familiar with the acronym "DUI."

“Over 400 posts WOW! I haven’t been on for a while. I’ve been very busy with work and things at home. Geobeet is right this will be a great group of people who probably have many interesting backpacking stories to tell. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and having a good time. I’ll be at the trailhead doing both days.”

Man, I'm on here for at least 75 seconds and no one posts, and as soon as I leave, BAM! 30 posts later y'all are still talking about beer while backpacking. I never heard of a BUI. I'm sure that the entire DNR will be at the campsite since we've been talking about drinking for the last 5 weeks.”

“Life outside of TT, guilty as charged, but I throw myself on the mercy of the court and beg not to be banned. In my defense I am forgetting about the bathroom I’m redoing that isn’t finished, the 3 season porch that just needs the last light fixture installed and the last few pieces of trim and I’m putting off starting the painting the house, all this to go backpacking 2 weekends in a row.”

“Fritz - a fire is allowed and there is a fire ring at the shelter. Someone mentioned a water pipe down the hill from the trail. Actually, there is a water spigot just above the shelter near the private retreat.

Since the shelter is so close to a road, I suggest we grab the shelter and 'hold' it for any thru hikers. I'd hate for some local partiers to take it over who might not give it up.
