Who Likes Fastpacking?View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 10 of 10 messages posted.
Who else loves it? “Does anyone like fastpacking? What’s your gear list look like? What gear do you find to work the best? What kind of pace/mileage do you average? I love it. Nothing like getting out and seeing the countryside, putting on the old running shoes, and zoning out with Mother Nature’s beauty. So who else fastpacks?” 7:05:11 PM 7/02/02 “I like to deathmarch! Does that count? 8)” 7:11:32 PM 7/02/02 “As long as Sheriff John Brown ain't at the door, I'll pack it slow. That way I 'll make share I get every little bit pack up, cause I hates it when I forget something!! I'm aways in confliction with myself when hiking. Because I can't hike and take it all in with a heads up view cause I'm always so focus on the next movment and the pace. The trail, getting from A to B. I would hate to think of blowing by something interesting because I'm so focused on the trail and the hike in general. I know it is happen to me. HYOH you get out what you put in to it in my books” 8:00:05 PM 7/02/02 “ifn I pack really fast, i kin usully manage in haf-n-hour ta be ready. now dats sum predy fas packn!” 8:05:34 PM 7/02/02 “sometimes i like fastpacking, but my wife hates getting bruises on her head.” 8:06:23 PM 7/02/02 “LMFAO!!!!! 8)” 8:30:00 PM 7/02/02 “Everyday life is always rush, rush rush. When I'm on a trail...I like to take my time.” 3:19:23 AM 7/03/02 “I naturally walk fast. Even in the woods I don't slow down. I recon I'm a fastpacker too.” 5:28:32 AM 7/03/02 “RJW - I don't know exactly what fastpacking is? Is it ultralight and ultraquick hiking? Is it what Ray and Jenny did on their long distance hikes? If that is the case then I can't say that I do that. I like the idea of hiking lighter and am trying to do so, but will probably never be that light or that fast.” 5:42:15 AM 7/03/02 “Big Coop, fast packing is basically trail running with a small, light pack and the minimal gear is taken. Usually just a bivy sack, food (raw), first aid, knife, LED headlight, and not much else. It can open huge expanses of backcountry to me in comparison to regular hiking. Do I move a lot faster? Yep, but because of the higher rate of travel I get to see 2-3X more country than the average packer. It allows me to tackle the longer trails that would not be possible in the time constraints of a weekend. I’d never be able to do a 50 mile loop as a short double over nighter but fast packing makes it very reasonable for me. Lighter, faster, better. IMHO.” 7:41:20 AM 7/03/02
