I used to be able to "View Source" from my computer at work, but lately I've noticed I can't anymore. It has to be something that I did because other computers in the department can do it. Any ideas?” 7:19:14 PM 7/02/02 “010101010101010101001111000101010” 8:05:07 PM 7/02/02 “perhaps its a closed source issue...” 8:09:43 PM 7/02/02 “Normally a couple of vigorious wallops to the right side of the cpu casing will do the trick, followed by a biblical shaking of it while screaming ' This phukin P.O.S. Sucks!! I can't work with this P.O.C. I need a new one!' and then take the day off!!” 8:21:08 PM 7/02/02 “I don't know computers at all Mike but I reckon I've used 'view source' thousands of times. Do you right click the web page and 'view source' or use view from the menu bar? And what happens? Is 'view source' grayed out on the list? When you view source, the default text program opens up, like notepad, word, or notepad light that I use. Is your text program working? Oh.... can I assume you rebooted the pc in case it's just a temp memory problem? If all else fails, I like the Rabbit's idea. ;o)” 9:41:28 PM 7/02/02 “Rabbit's idea works for me! Otherwise I have to call technical support.” 9:44:13 PM 7/02/02 “View Source isn't grayed-out and the trouble has been on going for weeks. I don't use it much at work, just occasionally when I see some "new" web ideas I can possibly apply to my site. I view source from the menu bar, then it sounds like it is doing something, then nothing. I'm thinking it's trying to find Wordpad or Notepad, but can't. I'm trying not to resort to Rabbit's solution!” 9:51:15 PM 7/02/02 “It's an I/O problem. Idiot Operator.” 12:43:32 PM 7/03/02 “Hey, I resemble that remark!” 12:50:42 PM 7/03/02 “Can you open other files in notepad or whatever it usually uses?” 12:52:41 PM 7/03/02 “Violin, Yes. I use a schematic drawing program here at work that generates a bill of materials using NotePad. It opens it up automatically.” 1:14:51 PM 7/03/02 “Sounds exactly like an I d 10 t error...” 1:15:33 PM 7/03/02 “Can you get it to work by right clicking and selecting 'view source'? If not try Briar Rabbit's suggestion.” 1:29:01 PM 7/03/02 “No, and I'm almost ready to try Briar Rabbit's suggestion. It could be some bug on our network. I'm not going to loose sleep over it. It's just frustrating. At least I have a home computer...slow as it is.” 1:34:40 PM 7/03/02 “I know I'm an idiot for asking this again, but did you reboot the computer?” 2:09:48 PM 7/03/02 “Just rebooted...still won't work. No your not an idiot, I've been known to overlook the obvious before.” 2:23:20 PM 7/03/02 “Are you on a WAN or LAN at work, if not, you might try reinstalling your browser, from the web site... just in case it's what's broke. Have you tried launching 'Notepad' on it's own, to make sure that your reader is present and working properly.” 3:07:26 PM 7/03/02 “LAN. I did re-instal IE 6.0. Still no go. Notepad & Wordpad both execute on their own.” 5:24:34 PM 7/03/02 “Go to Tools, Internet Options click programs tab change the editor for HTML. then change it back to what you want.” 5:43:48 PM 7/03/02 “Joe, Tried that too, no luck. I'm going home. Must get ready for 4 days off!” 6:04:36 PM 7/03/02 “Your computer has obviously developed artificial intelligence and is sick and tired of you 'viewing' its 'source' so it has figured out a way to shut the door on your little peeping Mike excursions! sicko” 6:15:10 PM 7/03/02 “By the way - you're able to work on your website while at work? I'm jealous! Perhaps the sys admin is on to you. ;o)” 8:20:50 PM 7/03/02 “Pennsy, Our company is very small and pretty laid back. Our company president wears shorts to work in the summertime. I do for 9 of the 12 months. I don't work on the site at work. I do check it after new items are posted from home, mainly because I have a much larger monitor at work and sometimes things aren't formatted correctly. Not to mention we have DSL at work, so checking photo links takes minutes. We don't really have a "system administrator". There is a guy that does minor networking stuff along with customer service functions. He is a friend of mine as well, so it's highly unlikely that is what is going on. I have an idea what is going on, if I can just fix it. I'll let you know if I find anything out next week.” 12:31:45 AM 7/04/02 9:08:33 AM 7/05/02 “good trick,, trapped in heck again!” 3:49:33 PM 7/05/02 swampy “gnu it!” 4:51:02 PM 7/05/02 Keyboard had too much coffee! “I made the cardinal klutz move and spilled my coffee onto the keyboard this morning. I took it apart and dried it off, tried to carefully mop up the sticky stuff with a slightly damp cloth. But when I put it together it still doesn't work right. Any suggestions?” 10:04:41 AM 10/18/02 “Sounds like you did the right things. Luckily a new keyboard will only cost you around $10.” 10:18:07 AM 10/18/02 “Lyndy, our comp. dept. has a million of them,. if you still have prob let me know and ill mail out a new one to you.” 10:21:46 AM 10/18/02 “Do you have one that says EMachines so that my husband doesn't have to know about this?” 10:26:33 AM 10/18/02 “Thanks MapleLeaf but it will cost you almost $10 to package one up and mail it. I'd better just go get another one.” 10:29:50 AM 10/18/02 “I just talked to my guy in the IT dept and he said No, they all say Turbo Plus. sorry” 10:30:16 AM 10/18/02 “and we have ones that say, Dell and gateway. Thats where I buy the PC's from.” 10:31:39 AM 10/18/02 “Just bought a new mouse from COMPUSA for $10 and they gave me a keyboard for free... They're cheap but good for a test machine or non heavy user...” 10:34:51 AM 10/18/02 “does your new mouse scroll?” 10:38:28 AM 10/18/02 “Your computer, like EVERY SENTIENT BEING, has an aura – a rainbow of colors encompassing its form. The aura defines its past, its present, and its future. The AURA DETERMINES if it will be lonely and isolated, or surrounded by loved ones. It determines if it will have frequent freeze-ups or be able to RUN INDEFINITELY. Ultimately, its aura determines if it will be frustrated and sad – or successful and happy. A CLEAN AURA, UNENCUMBERED BY IMPERFECTIONS, WILL ALLOW THE GOOD THINGS TO ENTER YOUR COMPUTER. However, if its aura is RIDDLED WITH IMPERFECTIONS, its purpose will never be fulfilled – it will never work the way it was designed to! The barriers that are present in a cluttered aura will MOST CERTAINLY PREVENT it from achieving happiness and success. Once its aura is cleansed – removing the imperfections and DARK CLOUDS that surround it – only then can love and happiness flow through its aura into the CPU. Only then can it realize its full potential. The aura is like a fingerprint; it is COMPLETELY UNIQUE and represents precisely who your computer really is. But unlike the fingerprint, a gifted psychic can CHANGE THE AURA, cleanse it – eliminating the clouds, the defects, and the negatives. The results could be startling: your computer could RUN FASTER, never crash and even repair common hardware problems!” 10:39:59 AM 10/18/02 “Marvin, if you are offering your services as a psychic, you might want to be more concise. The public has a three sentence attention span at the most.” 10:43:29 AM 10/18/02 “Yep...” 10:45:50 AM 10/18/02 “Yep! it's Friday!” 10:47:45 AM 10/18/02 “I had a gifted psychic CHANGE THE AURA,and cleanse it, it cost me $150.00 and it still does not work.” 10:49:12 AM 10/18/02 SCOOOOOORE! “it's Marv! :-)” 10:51:05 AM 10/18/02 “Hey cool, now the keyboard is working fine. I guess that patience is a virtue!” 5:13:32 PM 10/18/02 “marvinisbackandimissedhim” 6:18:48 PM 10/18/02 “Ok, this is nothing too pressing... just quite annoying. Does anybody know why the icons in my system tray are invisible? When the computer starts up they're there, but not long afterwards they just kinda dissappear, though they're still there. One other thing, my computer lags after a few hours, or while trying to play a game, it's nearly impossible to play a game, looking for ways to speed it up, use ram more efficiently, i downloaded memoryboost, which is supposed to help, all i know is that it tells me what programs are using the most memory, and why, after a couple of hours of running, the 'explorer' program is using so much memory, like 25 megs? my computer has been messed up for a while, and i'm trying to fix it, so it runs like it used to...?” 10:21:47 AM 5/09/03 “Shoot it.” 10:26:54 AM 5/09/03 “I should probably not say anything, because I do good to keep my own running, but... Alot of people suggest reformatting fairly regularly, 2-3 times a year I suppose. Also, you could go to start, run, msconfig, and turn off some of the UNNEEDED (Make sure they are unneeded) programs that start automatically when the computer is turned on. Things like the realplayer, that kind of stuff. That should help a little, but man I'm definitely giving it a shot in the dark here, so if you don't feel comfortable trying that stuff, I don't blame you. Surely someone around here who knows more will see this and help you out.” 10:26:56 AM 5/09/03 “Which OS are you using?” 10:27:24 AM 5/09/03 “it's kind of ironic that the ad on this page when i clicked here was for 'pc booster' i use windows me” 10:30:48 AM 5/09/03 “As for your taskbar icons, that really does depend on your OS, I'm sure. It's likely just a setting. As for your processing, have you defragged the HD lately? Also, you may want to try clearing your cache, recycle bin, and temporary internet files.” 10:31:13 AM 5/09/03 “ME is a godawful piece of crap. You might want to consider either going back to 98, or going forward to XP. I've got ME, but I've been resisting upgrading for a while. A lot of games can do crap that mess ME up. I have a couple of nagging problems that happen after I run certain games, like slowdowns, or the inability to connect to the Internet. A reboot usually fixes them. Defragging and retugo's other suggestions are also a good idea. You might have to turn off any screen savers and virus protection to get it to run to completion though. Oh, screen savers. Some fancy screen savers suck a tremendous amount of CPU time. My sis-in-law installed one on my brother's computer once, slowed him to a crawl.” 10:37:39 AM 5/09/03
