Whoops...

“I left my extra large Nalgene water bottle, filled with Gatorade, in the freezer from yesterday and just remembered it and took it out. It's swollen and the bottom has popped out some. Kinda looks like a hot dog from Neptune or something. Trying to figure out my next course of action here.. any suggestions?”

“Defrost and enjoy.... then go shopping for a new bottle.

“Thats funny. I put mine in the freezer for the first time today and took it right back out since I figured I'd forget it. Sounds like it's time for ya a new one.”

“Okay, the bottom is steadily taking back it's regular shape. I wonder how much of the integrity of the bottle has been compromised. Once completely thawed, I'm going to lay it on some paper towels overnight and see if there any leaks. I think the bottle may end up surviving!”

“If they can take a Nalgene bottle into outer space, I'm sure it can survive your freezer..”

“I had a few poly Nalgene bottles do this in the wintertime over the years and they all cracked a few months later so I do think it has some effect on the plastic. They were not the lexan bottles. I only buy the lexan bottles anymore for winter use.”

“I accidentally froze water in my Nalgene too, but it didn't "compromise the structural integrity" at all. If I remember correctly, the volume increases 9% when H2O turns from liquid to solid, and water freezes from the top downward. So maybe next time don't fill the bottle completely full...or maybe even store it in the freezer upside down.”
