“I left my extra large Nalgene water bottle, filled with Gatorade, in the freezer from yesterday and just remembered it and took it out. It's swollen and the bottom has popped out some. Kinda looks like a hot dog from Neptune or something. Trying to figure out my next course of action here.. any suggestions?” 5:16:57 PM 7/03/02 “Defrost and enjoy.... then go shopping for a new bottle. I recently had to explain to my friends son, why not to put the Nalgene bottle too close to the stove” 5:24:44 PM 7/03/02 “Thats funny. I put mine in the freezer for the first time today and took it right back out since I figured I'd forget it. Sounds like it's time for ya a new one.” 5:29:41 PM 7/03/02 “Mustard and relish.” 5:36:07 PM 7/03/02 Forgot... “I put mine in the freezer, but don't fill it up all the way. Never had a problem...yet.” 5:38:01 PM 7/03/02 “probably OK if you lay it on its side and have it less than half full” 5:52:19 PM 7/03/02 Blue Neptune Hot Dog Update “Okay, the bottom is steadily taking back it's regular shape. I wonder how much of the integrity of the bottle has been compromised. Once completely thawed, I'm going to lay it on some paper towels overnight and see if there any leaks. I think the bottle may end up surviving!” 5:56:00 PM 7/03/02 “If they can take a Nalgene bottle into outer space, I'm sure it can survive your freezer..” 6:07:21 PM 7/03/02 “Mine froze all the time in AK. I use 'em till I lose 'em.” 8:23:50 PM 7/03/02 “I had a few poly Nalgene bottles do this in the wintertime over the years and they all cracked a few months later so I do think it has some effect on the plastic. They were not the lexan bottles. I only buy the lexan bottles anymore for winter use.” 8:35:01 PM 7/03/02 “lexan all the way. ice or boiling water does no harm.” 8:45:14 PM 7/03/02 “Throw it away and buy a new bottle and more Gatorade. It's not like you fuct up a $300 pack.” 9:29:16 AM 7/04/02 “I have lexan bottle that I call Titty Bottle- She sat too close to the fire one evening, the bottle formed a blister but did not perforate- it is thin-but a little duct tape keeps her safe. Had it 7 or 8 year now.” 10:04:08 AM 7/04/02 Me Too “I accidentally froze water in my Nalgene too, but it didn't "compromise the structural integrity" at all. If I remember correctly, the volume increases 9% when H2O turns from liquid to solid, and water freezes from the top downward. So maybe next time don't fill the bottle completely full...or maybe even store it in the freezer upside down.” 1:39:21 PM 7/04/02
