“So in the last month our computer has cost us $300 dollars. Last months it was a virus that wreaked havoc upon our harddrive. Today it was a new harddrive, the other melted down. It better work for a loooooong time now.” 7:22:54 PM 7/03/02 “Sass told me your computer was broken. Is it fixed already??” 7:27:12 PM 7/03/02 “Yep, $200 today.” 8:05:49 PM 7/03/02 “Dell replaced my hard drive for free before the 3 years were up, but couldn't tell me why it died. Yes they suck, but it keeps food on the table and beer in the fridge.” 9:05:21 PM 7/03/02 “They're money pits once things start going wrong.” 9:18:13 PM 7/03/02 “stump, after we paid the guy he handed us the old harddrive and said" Dell should replace this for free". Whaddafu! We need a spare frickin hard drive just hanging around.....” 9:56:32 AM 7/04/02 Dude,, don't get a dell! “My HP is still running fine though I'm building a second one from components,, I did have to add a second hard drive for storage recently, but the original equipment is still chugging along fine, though a bit dated. hard to get time on the system with 2 teenagers though, so I'm building the new one for them both to save money and my sanity!don't go nasty on your system just because of a few problems though, I bet the rest is fine, and as long as your new HD is a good one, should last a good, long time.” 10:08:32 AM 7/04/02 birch “Did you go to an "authorized" repair person? (Not that she/he could get your lost data.)” 12:38:26 PM 7/04/02 “Hey speaking of HD's, I've heard once they have crashed all the info is lost forever but then recently I heard that one could set up the old crashed HD as like a slave drive or something in an attempt to retrieve old info from it. Are there degrees of crashed HDs. Like some crash harder than others. Can one retireve info if the HD has not fully crashed? I drop $270 a few months back on a repair after a my HD went down. It was just over 2yrs old. Funny I still have old 386's from like the early 90's that are still chugging away. They replaced it the same make but large size Western Digitial. Are those good? Don't you feel like you're getting screwed when they are charging like $60 and up for 1hr of labor. Have you notice the influx of 'fly by night' computer repair shops that hang around for a few months or longer and then go back underground from whence they came.” 1:10:09 PM 7/04/02 “Briar as a fact data can be recovered from a hard drive so long as the disks inside are not severely damaged. Worse case senario is that the disks must be removed in a clean rooom and downloaded on special equipment which of course will cost big bucks. Its all just a matter of how badly do you want the data and how much your willing to spend.” 1:29:05 PM 7/04/02 replacing the HD and other repairs are easy “replacing components is easy as long as you feel comfortable with it, I've added memory and replaced the HD with only minor trouble on the HD upgrade due to norton utilities f'n up when transfered,, called support, and their idea of repair was to install windows, their programs and then manually reinstall all my old stuff,, so much for Mr Norton and associates! check out some of the information from legit geek related sites and you'll find it's pretty easy to do your own work.” 8:52:35 PM 7/04/02 “they enterned a new system here at work. I HATE IT. I spent the last hour trying to figure out what the hell is going on and where are my menus.. I think there is a good chance that my boss may kill the revcing guy. things are being enterned twice, things are getting dropped, being lost ect... it takes twice as long to enter things because there are sooo many promps.. sniff~ i want the old one back. ~rant is over, thank you~” 9:28:29 AM 11/14/03 “Sounds like poor project planning. Good project management always starts with the user's workflow.” 9:30:53 AM 11/14/03 “And ends with a training session for the users on the new system, just in case. Are your bosses complete morons, Mapleleaf? Did they just dump this new system on you with no training whatsoever?” 9:33:06 AM 11/14/03 “the stuff on the old system did not roll over to the new system. . there is so much stuff that has to be re-entered. I process inv's for 26 branchs. i have to enter all that stuff. fright, costs per unit, vendor info, man i dont get paid enough for this. it sucks!” 9:34:23 AM 11/14/03 “If your bosses didn't have their old database translated and loaded into the new database, then yes, they are complete morons.” 9:35:16 AM 11/14/03 “It sounds like a nightmare. I'm glad I don't work for your company! :D” 9:35:39 AM 11/14/03 “How did Ice Tea get hold of mapleleaf's password?” 9:36:31 AM 11/14/03 “gee thanks..so you all are my only saving grace here. LOL” 9:36:40 AM 11/14/03 “No kidding! I remeber going from Windows 3.1 to Windows '95. Took me forever to figure out where crap was. "HEY! Where's all my icons!"” 9:37:39 AM 11/14/03 “$200 for a new hard drive??? A new Wester Digital or Seagate 80 gig drive (very high quality) only runs around $100. Takes 5 min to install and another 30 to 45 to reinstall windows. If you can get Dell to replace that drive, install it as a slave and use it as a document drive. I have 2 drives that I run (actaully 3, but 2 are in RAID). One is for the OS and the other is for documents. If windows ever goes down and I need to reformat, all I lose are my programs. All files are still safe.” 10:46:55 AM 11/14/03 “stupid dummy computers!!” 10:51:35 AM 11/14/03 “well this is just great :( it seems that our new system is kinda like Trail Talk, if you hit the submit button more then once it will repeat the post. I printed a Purchase Order then left my office, but I guess as I left a folder i had on my desk hit the key board. I just came back in and it printed something like 50 times. I hate computers! what a watse of paper!!” 10:43:32 AM 11/17/03 “~Computa gangsta phrase of the day~ Hate the code, not the box.” 10:48:03 AM 11/17/03 “Woo, hoo,,,a spike in b2b buying,,,all caused by a twitch in ml's mouse finger. Consumer confidence will soar going into the Holiday season. Mapleleaf might wind up being stradewds hero!” 10:48:23 AM 11/17/03 “I bet our IS dept could format your hard drive while you're away. They did mine.” 11:30:15 AM 11/17/03 “Found a great new Mac for the ladies! ”4:12:04 PM 12/05/03 “LMAO! Where does the floppy go?” 4:13:18 PM 12/05/03 “Doesn't look like there's anything floppy about that at all... ...and since it's running Mac OS, the ladies don't have to worry about it crashing at the wrong time!” 4:14:08 PM 12/05/03 “...the jokes are endless....where to start, where to start...” 4:15:47 PM 12/05/03 “The only drawback is that since it's running Mac OS, there are very few applications for it...” 4:16:56 PM 12/05/03 “ahhh ya only need one I think” 5:58:38 PM 12/05/03 “Why are there only guys on this thread? Oh yeah... Computers. ;)” 6:01:36 PM 12/05/03 “Oh Killer app....” 2:56:21 AM 12/06/03
