It's been pretty bad here in Philly area. I went hiking on Coppermine Trail north of the Water Gap yesterday and it smelled like burning balsam. Visibility was severely limited to one ridge east of Kittatiny Mtn.

WF, A/C should filter out the particulates. It may need a filter replaced.

Back in '88 when Yellowstone burned all of Mi. was covered in heavy yellow smoke for weeks. That sucked.

After getting the smoke wafted south on winds from the north, it seems to have stagnated, keeping the smoke over us longer than it would have if westerly winds had blown it clear. Another front is due in Tuesday sometime, so maybe that will do the trick.

I took one of my daughters to the movies on Saturday. It was bright and sunny when we went in but it was hazy and smelled smokey when we came out around 6 pm. My first thought was that there had been a terror attack. I can't believe how far it traveled.

Where's the fire?

Fires (there are about 85 of them) are in Central Quebec east of James Bay, which is off the lower part of Hudson's Bay. Smoke traveled up to 900 miles (Delmarva Peninsula).
It does point up the interconnectedness of the world. Borders don't really mean much to nature.

Yes --- the natural world has no repect for lines on a map. It reminds me of a program I saw years ago re: acid rain. It was produced in Canada and detailed forest damage and lifeless ponds resulting from the sulpher dioxide plumes of US smokestacks back in the 50s, 60s and 70s.

For Some Reason the US gov't labelled the film as propaganda.

Breathe deep
The gathering gloom.
Watchlights glow
From every room.

Red is grey
And yellow, white.
But we decide
Which is right
And which is illusion.

Welcome! sulphur dioxide
Hello! carbon monoxide
The air, the air
Is everywhere

Breath deep, while you sleep
Breath deep

Bless you, alcohol bloodstream
Save me, nicotine lung steam

Incense, incense
Is in the air

Breath deep, while you sleep
Breath deep

Cataclysmic ectoplasm
Fallout atomic orgasm
Vapor and fume
At the stone of my tomb
Breathing like a sullen perfume
Eating at the stone of my tomb

Welcome! sulphur dioxide
Hello! carbon monoxide
The air, the air
Is everywhere

Breath deep, while you sleep
Breath deep... deep!

Deep-dee-deep!

Yes indeed, that wuz the Moodies.

In the Boston area: The sky was a bit yellowish yesterday, and the sun was an odd kind of orange - even at noon. The reflections of the sun off of cars was definitely odd.

Its all more normal today.

But that is progress, and if we'd cut down the forests for cheaper pulpwood, there would be no fires.

The mantra of the ignorant! Live longer through breathing toxic fumes.

I am so awesome. I totally knew that was Moody Blues. Our cabin burned down in a forest fire when I was 5. They told us we didn't need to worry about evacuting, that the fire would not jump the highway (about 7 miles from our place). It did and by the time we were notified we had about 15 minutes. I remember the sky was black and the sun was a small speck and blood red. It made everything look orangish. As we left you could even hear the fire. When they say it sounds like a train, they aren't kidding. Nature is powerful.

Yes, we got yellow sky for the whole day in Montreal yesterday...parts of Ottawa, Toronto and New York state got affected too.

Toronto is bad, because they've got a public worker's strike....tons of garbage piling up...stingeroo....wonder if that aroma travelled down to Detriot?

Yep, I knew that too Duna. My mom used to listen to all that "old" music when she cleaned house. We helped clean and learned the words and became huge fans of music most of the kids our age didn't even know existed.

The Beatles kick arse Duna. We never listened to a whole lot of James Taylor. I also like Led Zep, Allman Brothers, Rollingstones, America, Fleetwood Mac, Simon and Garfunkel, etc. Good, good music.

Just 'cause I'm young, doesn't mean I don't know good music when I hear it. LOL! I'm not saying there is no good music in my own generation, but it is fewer and farther between. Have you listened to the radio lately Duna? Have you actually heard the words in some of those songs? Ever heard of Eminem or Britney Spears? They are two examples of the extreme. Depressing really. I have two stations programed in my car . . . NPR and the oldies station.

There's a group called Hayseed Dixie that does bluegrass covers of older rock songs. I never realized how lewd some of the stuff I listened to growing up was until I heard these versions of it. I'll never be able to enjoy "walk this way" by aerosmith ever again. Quite a few others, too.

Treebait, I also wasn't trying to say that the older stuff didn't ever have a crude message once in awhile, but it was creative. It doesn't take too much brain power for Eminem to repeat "Trailpark girls go round the outside." Or for Britney to talk about how she "accidently" did it again.

Simple songs....
for simpletons. Like that La La La song (Can't get you outta my head) from Kylie Mcnolie (?). The whole song consists of like 2 or 3 phrases...

Smoke... On The Water!

They, asked me how I knew,
My true love was true,
I of course replied, something here inside,
Can not be denied.

They, said some day you'll find,
All who love are blind,
When you heart's on fire, you must realize,
Smoke gets in your eyes.

So I chaffed them, and I gaily laughed,
To think they would doubt our love,
And yet today, my love has gone away,
I am without my love.

Now laughing friends deride,
Tears I cannot hide,
So I smile and say, when a lovely flame dies,
Smoke gets in your eyes,

Smoke gets in your eyes.
