“A week from tomorrow I will be on the train for Philmont. I can't wait to hit the trail. We're only doing a 60 mile trek as we have mostly younger inexperienced hikers, but it should still be fun.”

“Did your trek change because of the fires? All of Philmont's north country was closed due to the Ponil fire.”

“Here's good news for anybody heading to NM, from the New Mexico Mountain Club email list:

The Santa Fe and Carson National Forests will open this Friday
morning,
7/12. The Carson will maintain Stage 3 fire restrictions (no
cigarettes,
open fires, ATVs). The Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District has no
restrictions.
The only places you can't go to in the SF National Forest are Borrego
Mesa
and the area around the Cerro Grande Fire.”
