Going back to school fulltime so we have to downsize. We still want to stay in the same area.
This way we can drive by our house and cry.

After looking at that house, you will pal, you will. That's a heartbreaker, but you will just have to focus on the goal and chalk it off for the time being.

Feeney-

Looks like a great place! Move it to a nice place withing 20 miles of Hanover, NH and you've got yourself a deal. I'll even add a 3 car garage and steps out of the sliding glass doors and the kitchen door. Looks like one helluva first step.

We built a log home in Vermont in '88.

It was northern white cedar from the Katahdin area of Maine.

It was delivered on a flatbed trailer nearly 500 miles and weighed 49,000 pounds.

We had to cut down some trees so that the truck could get close to the building site.

Looking back on the whole experience it was a little insane, but I really miss our mountain side house.

I built a log home in 1993, same experience as mARKo. The trucks arrived in late November and then everything was burried in snow for two months until we could start construction. I sold it 6 years ago and moved further north in PA to be closer to the Pine Creek Gorge. Nice house, it needed a garage. Would have fit in better where I live now.

We are from D.C. and did a typical flatlander thing.

We built two miles and 700 feet elevation up a dirt road.
It was "fun" in the winter and mud season!
I had to plow 1/3 mile with an old junker truck.
January '90 we had one snow storm on top of another for a total of nearly three feet.
The clutch linkage had busted and I had to start the beast in first gear to get going, then slip it into neutral kill the engine and do the same in reverse.
I had a roll of snow going taller than the plow blade.
Those were the days!
Oh yeah, #3 son was three months old at that time.
