“At a few of your suggestions I've planned a trip to High Uintas Wilderness Area. What I was wondering just how cold is it ? I planning an Aug. trip on Brown Duck Mountain Loop, it says most lakes(where I'll most likly camp) lie at elevation 10,400. Is that long john country? Any info on the area is welcomed.” 5:24:26 AM 7/15/02 “Leave the long johns at home, but don't forget your rain slicker. Although we're in the middle of a drought here, the possibility of frequent thunder showers in the high country still exists. It will still cool off enough at night that you'll want about a 20 degree bag for comfort, but for the most part when the sun is up you'll be in your shirt sleeves. Of course, wide ranges are always possible, and it has snowed at that elevation in almost every month of the year. So be prepared for anything. But typically August is the warmest part of the year here. Enjoy your trip and don't forget to let us know how it went.” 5:46:21 AM 7/15/02 “Thank youverymuch-you hike this trail?” 4:06:07 PM 7/15/02 “If you are in SLC, make sure you go by griz's bakery. You will not be disappointed.” 4:17:16 PM 7/15/02 I Dunno... “10,400' elevation sounds like long john country to me.” 8:06:09 PM 7/15/02 “Rule of thumb is a temperature differential of approximately three degrees for every 1000 feet of elevation change. Since the daytime temps at 4500 feet in the Salt Lake Valley are in the 90's, subract 18 degrees from that and it won't get any cooler than the low seventies in the daytime, and probably NEVER lower than 40 at night, even at that elevation. That said, if you get cold enough to wear long johns when it's that cool, then you'd better bring them. Myself, I save the long handled underwear for days that drop below freezing. I've never hiked that part of the Uinta range, but I'm sure that you can't go wrong. Take extra film.” 10:13:18 PM 7/15/02 10:22:14 PM 7/15/02 10:24:59 PM 7/15/02 “Hobbit-I checked out your photo gallery and all I can say is WOW! You have inspired me to take time for better photos. I have e-mailed the place you gave Pathman to get a detailed map, hope I didn't wait too long. I will arrive Aug 10 or 11. Don't know if I can go to Griz's since I'll not be the one driving. The group I'm traveling with, Buckeye Trail Assco., we have bought an old scool bus and some of the guys have redid it for road trips. I'm doing this trip cheap! Once we get there we all go our separate ways and meet up for a mondo dinner the last day before heading home. Budder this trip would have been perfect for your "Big Trip" this season considering your driving status. Last I heard there were 2 seats still open and all you have to be is a member in good standing (pay your dues and work on the BT once in a while).” 6:12:43 AM 7/16/02 “Just in case what is the address of Griz's?” 5:07:16 PM 7/16/02 “Thank you for the kind words Wolfsister. I hope you have a great time. Take lots of pictures, and don't forget to share them. I wish I were going with you!” 5:32:53 PM 7/18/02 “Anyone want to tell me where Griz's Bakery is?” 7:02:37 AM 7/21/02
