Also,
.......we might be better off staying at Graves Crossing, which is west of Alba and puts right on the road to get to Charlevoix, which is state route 66. You can see where the campground is located on the Jordan River map. It's on the River, just north of where will be camping on Saturday night.

Anybody recommend any good guide books or maps for this place?

I don't trust my truck so I may rent a car or fly up.

If you decide to fly, I'm 5 miles from MBS airport (Midland, Bay City, Saginaw)

WD -

At the NCT Trail store online(www.northcountrytrail.org), you can pick up:

the Hutchins' Guides to Certified Sections of the NCT. Never read it, just came up on the search.

Michigan Mapsets by Arden Johnson -with this you will need two map sets.

First, M115 W of Mesick to M32 W of US131, Wexford- Charlevoix Counties

the second, M32 W of US131 through Macinaw City, Charlevoix- Emmet Counties

I'll be placing an order on Friday for these same map sets. If you want I could share with everyone once I get them in.

If you could pick up a book - Michigan Atlas and Gazetteer, by DeLorme, it would help you out a lot in the state. I don't ever leave home without mine in the car! I would only buy if you were going to drive through a lot of the state.

www.map-quest.com has some info on how to get here. As it was mentioned earlier in the thread, you could fly in to (Flint?) Bishop, or, is there anyway you could find a flight into Traverse City? That would put you about an hour and a half from our Thursday night camp spot!

Sorry, le Subtil beat me to the punch...
He posted while I was putting mine together. Funny how information can go out of date, even when you're writing it??

His idea would be great. You would have to worry 'bout renting....

Good turnout so far by the way what is the name of the street off Michigan-131 where the Warner Creek Pathway trailhead is?

And is that where we are all going to meet?

CMB - That's M 32, I believe. You head west on it and the Warner Creeck Pathway trailhead should be on the left.

I don't know if it's for sure, but Graves Crossing, I would say, would be the best spot to camp Thursday night and meet Friday morning people, if there are any. It's in real short distance to when we need to be.

11 people - Yeah, it's a good turn out!

laqtis: I have all of those maps. Just to warn ya, they're hand drawn maps. Also, they were all published in 1996, and there has been a lot of changes to the trail since then. If you'd like I could e ya a sample page just so you can see what you'd be getting before buying.

Wish I could join in on this one, but I'll be playing out east at that time.

That would be great. Email: rderminer@hotmail.com

I have a feeling that the "Wes Boyd" info and maps might be fine. That what I've been using to this point.

Add Shane to the list if a dog is welcome. We'll head up very early Friday morning so to be there by around 8. But if it would help any out of towners, I could wait and carpool or do airport pick up. I'm 30 minutes far from Detroit Metro. Just have to ask.

Q - I checked my maps and if you're talking about Fisherman Island Park near Charlevoix for the big lake visit, it looks ideal. We could coordinate a cooler full of lunch for the beach and take the hike or just play. This is going to be "funtastic"

Cool, thanks for the help for the out of towners.

Fisherman's Island is the one I was talking about. Really, I'd be up for anything that day. I'll go with the "pack".

Q - I have a Jordan River map laying around here somewhere. Are you thinking my dad may have a different map?

We'll have to come up w/ a name for him so he doesn't become known as a "tarabull dad". He's a great dad, I swear!!! :-)

Your Dad IS great. Had a great time with him last year. Looking forward to seeing him again.

I can bring maps. Speaking of, gforce emailed me some info last night. I can pass them along if anyone wants. Just email me and at no extra charge, you'll receive this handy, dandy trail map of the Jordan River Pathway...... (cue crowd noise) oooooooooohhhhh aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh

Hey, Smiley, it would be great to see everyone again and that 2nd weekend won't work out for me. I have yet to figure out how to be in two places at once, and the New England trip dates had already been set.

Fisherman's Island S.P. is a nice choice for 'seeing a Great Lake' and I think y'all will like it there.

To get everyone caught up.....
you can set the amount of day you can view at the top of the thread. Change the dates to the last month and you will see all of the info up to this point.

What I'd like to do is get everyone to note when they are planning to come up.

Thursday people will be meeting at Graves Crossing.

Friday morning people will be meetng at Warner Creek Pathway Trailhead

Saturday morning people will be meeting at Deadman's Overlook Trailhead.

Sound Off! Whose coming, when??

BTW
coyote 13 - I will be emailing that list to you tomorrow and my offer still stands to you (or anyone else for that matter) for transportation for this trip.

Carpooling - I have a van tha I could help with carpooling, but I will be leaving to meet up on Thursday. Let me know if you are interested.

Don't know and won't know until I find out when I'm going back to work. Most likely we'll be Saturday am people due to one small child, who's just not quite ready to take care of herself. Maybe Friday night...I bet we could find you all on the trail. I think the earliest we'll be able to get away is around 1pm on Friday.

IF I can come...
I hope to leave Friday am and get there in the afternoon, if I can go. Worst case scenerio would be that I would arrive in the weeeee hours of Saturday morning.
