Another FNG “I've been looking for useful sites, seeing how I've decided to get back on the trails after a six year absence... Saw some cool stuff here. I'm from NY, thinking about spending a couple of days on the Long Path this weekend. Any good tips concerning the path? I'd love some info on where to park a car for a couple days... Thanks.” 10:42:03 PM 7/16/02 “Another newbie. Has Matt started advertising the site somewhere?” 8:33:58 AM 7/17/02 “i'm sure they're just attracted to all the magnetic personalities here...like flies on...LOL! what the heck is an FNG?” 8:36:57 AM 7/17/02 “F*cking New Guy” 8:39:20 AM 7/17/02 “Oh, how rude of me. Welcome, Corporal Nasty, to the Jungle. Iff'n you ain't another troll, that is.” 8:44:35 AM 7/17/02 all these new people “i don't have enough energy to welcome them all properly so as long as you're not a troll 'welcome to the matrix ' yadda yadda yadda... troll have fun and keep smiling :) no matter how terrible this place may seem” 9:21:35 AM 7/17/02 “Yeah, just keep reminding yourself...."if simer190 can make it, anybody can". I think simer probably caught it worse than any newbie I have seen come on board.” 9:23:47 AM 7/17/02 “(aHEM newgirl)” 9:24:28 AM 7/17/02 “Newgirl created a stir, but simer just plain caught h@ll.” 9:30:08 AM 7/17/02 lol, and it wasn't even that bad :) 9:30:50 AM 7/17/02 “Welcome to the asylum, Corporal. Take charge of the troops and march them off to chow.” 9:31:36 AM 7/17/02 “Do a Google search on the term backpacking. You'll understand where all the newbies are coming from. Welcome aboard Corporal Nasty (ummm...I think). Enjoy the ride.” 9:43:08 AM 7/17/02 “and she really means that! LOL ;-)” 9:46:19 AM 7/17/02 “Corporal Nasty - welcome! I also live in the NYC area (for now anyway, can't stress that enough). I average at least a couple of overnighters each month, and am at least dayhiking every weekend. Good place to leave your car would be in Harriman State Park in Rockland County. The section of the Long Path that runs through there is very beautiful, and I always see good wildlife in that park (deer, coyotes, fox... there are bears but haven't seen them in this park). It's a big park, 50k acres, and there are several options as to where to park your car. If you can swing further north, the Long Path also runs through the Catskills.. I'd HIGHLY recommend that. I can give you more specifics if you'd like.” 9:48:53 AM 7/17/02 Whoops! “Meant to close that tag, really I did ; ) .” 9:52:34 AM 7/17/02 “Greetings. You're not from Trollville, NY or anything like that are you?” 10:20:47 AM 7/17/02 “Thanks for the welcomes and warnings- No, I am not a troll, although those that deserve it will get an earful... The whole Penn DOT thing seemed like a huge breeding ground for trolls. Thanks for the tip, Artex, I'd heard the catskills were the best part of the path. I actually camp with some friends once a year at Sebago Beach in Harriman, I think the AT passes near there at some point... Any other specifics you could help me out with would be great. Nope, I'm not from Trollville, although I did spend some time in Trolltown, Georgia. Very bitter place down there, although I don't know if it got the name from the local's attitudes or their faces. Hmmm.” 3:35:02 PM 7/17/02 “"Do a Google search on the term backpacking. You'll understand where all the newbies are coming from" closed it ;) so we're second on google, but we're number 30 on yahoo... what's up with that, and we're number 3 on msn... hmm... very interesting” 8:32:14 PM 7/17/02 Welcome “Hey it sounds like your new too...welcome to it.. I am still putting my food ...no foot in my mouth... without the boot!” 10:36:34 PM 7/17/02 “Thanks simer!” 7:29:45 AM 7/18/02
