That sounds cool. I have to get out and do some night hiking this season. I haven't hiked at night in along time. Last night, I finished working on my trail blanket. It's my 200 gram thinsulate blanket I use for covering my legs in the winter. I put some velcro on it and some belt loops so I can snug it from my waist or arm pits on down. This thing is great and really warm for standing around and lunch breaks. I can put it in my light sleeping bag too. At one pound it will be in my pack all winter.

Did you cover the thinsulate with nylon or something waterproof? It sounds like a great item, more useful than an emergency blanket. I got the speedy stitcher for modifying hipbelts, but I just have to learn how to use it.

I used taffeta nylon. I want to spray Campdry on it to make it water repellent. I also put a new hipbelt on one of my day packs and made a new 850 c.i. lumbar pack with removeable internal stays. Came out nice, but I haven't hiked with it yet.

When you use your speedy stitcher be sure always to push the needle through straight. If you push at an angle it will break. Also another trick is to use a small awl or pen or something to grab the loop that you make if your sewing through really heavy webbing or fabric on the first stitch to give yourself enough thread to work with. Always push the needle straight when you do any stitching with this and you'll seldom break a needle.

Okay, sounds good. By the way, the Shasta was great on the Maine trip. I had it pretty stuffed with three days gear, and it was comfortable. I used it for a daypack too because I didn't want to take another pack with me.

That's great that the pack is working out for you. I remember that the pack does snug down really well to make a smaller pack with the z shaped compression straps. We have another soggy Saturday going on here with rain and fog. I'm still going for a short hike later.

I'm going back to bed.... I'm trying to NOT get sick.... well, at least not any worse than what I am now. Everyone has told me that I should just lay down, take it easy, and after taking my meds, to just rest. How can I? I'm still coming off the hiking/camping high I got from my overnighter last night. Left Thursday, but due to inclimate weather conditions we weren't prepared for, had to come back yesterday. I'm glad we did, in the long run, but I'm still restless.

(shrugging....) Well, since I have almost no energy, I suppose laying down would be the wise thing to do. I hate being sick. Bleh. *hack hack*.... yep..... sucks being sick.

Doctor Tilt recommends lots of fresh-squeezed orange juice (dash of vodka and smidgin of Midori Melon Liquer, optional).

Hmmmm........ liking the Midori suggestion....considering I'm not a big fan of the orange stuff.

Felt good going back to sleep..... but I hate it when you get back up, and you feel as though you've wasted half your day away in bed. Suppose I have nothing to really worry about, considering all my plans were involving being up north, the very place that caused this stuffed up nose, loss of real voice (I have been told I sound like a man, ..... one friend told me I sound sexy.... and I should try being one of those "phone sex operators! YIKES!), and this all around crummy feeling....

See? Told you ..... I'm a bad patient. Maybe I'll treat myself to a movie later.

If you haven't tried the Orange Stuff freshly squozen (hey, it could happen), you really need to try it. It's a hunnert times better than the carton-bottled-frozen junk... and it's good exercise for those pecs!

Then again... Midori is pretty tasty by itself, but you need to thin it with Something.

Well, my morning is shot. Reset the clock on the VCR; reset the clock on the microvave; reset the clock on the stereo; reset the clock in the car; reset the clock on the coffeemaker; reset the clock on the... clocks?

Thank God I get an extra hour this time of year to reset all the freakin' things LOL

I've been up for hours. Just busy, busy, busy. My daughter and I have to build a longhouse before I go backpacking this weekend. Well it is a small longhouse ...

Going on a field trip to Waterloo Village to study Lenni Lenape indian history on Friday with the fourth graders. I'm excited, sort of ... This is what happens when your child has nut allergies.

It is a house built by indians, that looks like a bunch of sticks tied together and covered by bark. We are supposed to make something using materials like the indians would use. First we were going to make a necklace, but they didn't use clay, they used bone and shells, leather and sinew, and I'm just fresh out of that stuff, ya know? So I will gather some green switches and bark, and vines and see what is what.

Heh,heh, they had that word in a crossword puzzle at church, defined as another word for stick. I had to explain to the kids why a switch was also a stick, not a thing to turn the lights on. When I said that in the old days before Social Services, people would punish their kids for bad behavior using switches, their eyes got really big.
