Maples are turned, apple and cider time.” 8:11:52 AM 10/12/06 “Snowing in Mid-Michigan. Nasty wind too. No accumulation, though. Just flurries that come and go with the wind. Then the sun comes out, melts what fell. We're going to the movies for free tonight. Its free for teachers this week. I think the movie of choice is Open Season. Have a good one everybody!” 1:45:08 PM 10/12/06 “hey smiley girl, does that mean it's Open Season for teachers???” 4:20:10 PM 10/12/06 “Friday the 13th...have a good one! Muah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha...” 3:47:31 AM 10/13/06 “Hey I like friday the 13th. It usually goes well for me. Unless I haven't slept at all, like last night. It was a bad combo of some high test tiramisu and neighborhood dogs barking all night. Ugh. Time to hit the caffeine. And no more tiramisu before bedtime.” 5:25:08 AM 10/13/06 “Is Friday the 13th a bad day to get a vasectomy? We'll find out in a bit. I guess I get to spend the weekend sitting on an ice pack. Yall have fun out on the trail while I have the blue balls. TMI?” 6:48:34 AM 10/13/06 “Good morning! And -- TMI!!!! lol” 6:51:21 AM 10/13/06 “Dayhiker, I got mine two years ago....really fun stuff if you like some doc jackin your nutz while you squirm around.....I knicknamed him "Dr. Death". On a lighter side, it's 55 here or colder and is supposed to stay....now for some backpackin fun......” 7:21:19 AM 10/13/06 “Happy 13th, off to build a brige on the NCT in Wi. nice and cold and snowy” 7:38:33 AM 10/13/06 “Dayhiker, you kind and thoughtful man! Your wife must really like you alot. I'm getting a haircut today. I'll think of you with every snip. Woodstove install today!! Just in time, it's freaking COLd outside, 34°. Now, my mission for today is to get over my parents house and abscond with their hand wrought fireplace tools. Rescue them really, from the basement of forgotten goods. It's amazing how much stuff people save in 34 years of living in one house. Scarey. Have a wonderful weekend all!! Hope you get out there somewhere.” 7:54:29 AM 10/13/06 “dayhiker. Congrats! :-} Had that done 2 days before a week of car camping. Not a good choice! LOL chopchoppy Had a student "do" half of me. She was better than the doc. How's that for out of context? LOL” 8:09:30 AM 10/13/06 “I have my hands over mine and my legs crossed, heck of a way to try and enjoy my morning tes” 8:11:37 AM 10/13/06 “Dayhiker A bag of frozen peas works wonders!!! Happy Snipping!” 8:14:54 AM 10/13/06 “Sass - you weren't the only one that got a haircut. VBG I slept through the whole thing. So far, no big deal.” 8:23:34 PM 10/13/06 “morning off to work on the NCT in the snow woohoo” 5:26:48 AM 10/14/06 “work? WORK? Sounds like play time to me..... Nice and cool here today. I'm off to REI to hang out and promote our trail. Today's a sort of 'show your wares/stuff' day there. Lone Star Hiking Trail, lshtclub.com PR time; meet the Prez of the club (me).. :) Stop by and gander. Maps, etc. Remember, it's 140 miles long........” 6:19:19 AM 10/14/06 “Wow, all you early risers are off doing trail stuff and I only have the laundrymat to look forward too...oh well, let's make it a good one! at least it's warmer than the last 2 days...” 7:03:38 AM 10/14/06 “DH, so how are ya feeling? I bet some lunges or deep knee bends would be just wonderful now eh? Seriously though, I hope you are well.” 7:13:32 AM 10/14/06 “Dayhiker, thought I would sleep thru mine too, but after the pills, I sat for an hour waiting in the room before he decided to get to me, so the high was wearing off and I was very restless. However, I recovered quickly and had a little soreness later, but no biggie. Every once in a while I get a pain from rigorous....a, well, you know, with the X2.. ;p” 8:22:33 AM 10/14/06 “I feel really good except when I first stand up. It's more of an ache than a pain. The pain medicine I'm on is oxycodone. It makes me feel like I've had 4-5 beers. I'm a bit tipsy, really chatting, and feeling amorous right now is not such a good thing.” 4:08:56 PM 10/14/06 “Good Morning all, you too numbnutz....:) Coffee's good......had a good day at REI yesterday, spoke to a few folks about the trail and bought some new Keen "Austins" really cool low top leathers and a pair of Smartwool low socks to wear in em. Plus a couple other small things. So, did I go to promote the trail or shop? hehe........” 7:37:35 AM 10/15/06 “Morning! Baby it's cold outside! 34° now, but warming up quick. It's going to be a gorgeous day. I think we'll be headed back out to the orchard for another 1/2 or maybe a full bushel of apples. Got the wood stove all fired up this morning; only took me three tries (I'm a little rusty and it isn't like building a campfire). Got a bit warm in the house yesterday, 71° as far away from the stove as possible....87° right by it. I don't think the furnace is going to see much use this year. Made a nice pot of bean soup on top of it too. =) Enjoy your day all.” 7:57:11 AM 10/15/06 Hugs. “Good morning. "So, did I go to promote the trail or shop? hehe........"It depends! Did you use your own money or the Club's cash for your purchases? Sassafras - Sounds good. Nothing beats a bowl of fresh, hot, home-made, bean soup on a chilly day. Have a great day, everyone.” 9:03:20 AM 10/15/06 “17 degrees and the sun is just coming up over the mtns. Just started a pot of coffee and turned NPR on. Going to be a nice lazy morning.” 11:16:48 AM 10/15/06 “slim, the club has some funds, but they are held by the treasurer. The pres. gets no chance for 'dippin', lol..........(of course my 'financial advisor' told me it was ok)so I took my checkbook with me.” 12:07:49 PM 10/15/06 “Baggin' leaves today. Nice day for it and no real guarantee for another until sometime in May, so I'm baggin' leaves while the sun shines. Going to Eau Claire tomorrow and have a Sports Medicine guy look at my back. If that doesn't work I'll just turn myself over to Pathman. My mom had an angioplasty last Tuesday morning. I brought her home from the Hospital less than 24 hours later. On the way home we stopped for lunch and two different stores for a little shopping. After putting away her groceries we went to my brother Mike's house where she had a beer; following that we went to dinner. It's amazing what a little oxygen coursing through your body will do for your energy. She's pretty tough for 84, reasonably so for any age.” 12:21:59 PM 10/15/06 “Was the oxygen for her, or you?” 4:33:55 PM 10/15/06 “We both get the same 21%, lol. Just talking about what a difference it makes when your coronary arteries actually permit a healthy flow of blood.” 4:50:22 PM 10/15/06 “good morning folks, it's raining lots here. Today I'll just hang out and enjoy the rain we've been needing for months now. Hopefully, the stock tanks are filling up at our place near Austin. Watering them with city water can get costly...and the grass has burnt up too meaning no hay production. Luckily we had alot of round bales put up.” 7:07:57 AM 10/16/06 “I spent yesterday much like you Nimbleweenie only Bill used the muching mower to get up all the leaves...I was cursed with the laundrymat, packing summer clothes and unpacking winter...at least it's in the 50's today....another Monday visit to the dentist....sigh.... Oh, I almost forgot! Good morning! last edited: 10/16/06 7:54:21 AM” 7:53:48 AM 10/16/06 “Good morning! It's supposed to warm up some this week. I've caught all but two fish in my lily pond. Today I will get the last ones. It occurs to me what an incredible waste of time this is (catching the fish, not TT.....although....), those fish would make excellent fertilizer for the iris and lily pads. Maybe I'll leave the last two. They had a great life this summer. Much better than being eatten by some big ole pirana or something. Have a great day and week everyone.” 8:08:38 AM 10/16/06 “Lol, Sass! C'mon, you know it's fun to catch them! That's where a seine net comes in handy, too. It makes pond fish trapping much easier. I watched a spectacular sunrise this morning. It started out blood red, and progressed through a riot of colors, filtering through high level clouds. It's supposed to be in the high 70's here, which I consider to be cool weather. HPM thinks the 70's are now positively hot, since it's been so cool up in Charlotte. It's going to be darned funny watching HPM adjust to a (relatively) real winter. He's such a southern boy.” 8:17:35 AM 10/16/06 Hugs “Good morning. Just returned from our trailer park's Resource Cafe. Enjoyed some free coffee, sweet rolls and the comics from the morning newspaper. I believe that I explained previously that they have a free-use computer as well as remote access, fax and reproduction machines, and lots of literature. Years ago I mentioned that the coffee shops seem to exist to serve the older folks. For a lot of the single folks it's their only contact with other people during their day. They don't need the food or coffee away from home, but the coffee shops provide an opportunity for exchanging good morning greetings with the waitresses. This new Resource Cafe provides the same thing, a place for a lot of lonely folks to contact others. Outside there were parked five regular bicycles, three of the heavy, hard to pedal 3-wheelers(the old folks' tri-cycles) and one electric, mobility scooter. The only other thing us older folks need, are some younger people(not the children nor babies). Seeing younger folks make us feel good to be older. It reminds us of all the things through which we will not have to live again. Enjoy a wonderful week. last edited: 10/16/06 8:29:23 AM” 8:23:04 AM 10/16/06 “It is afternoon but I wanted to share what I saw this morning. The east (isn't that where the sun rises) was on fire this morning and in the west was the biggest hugest rainbow...stretching from one side of the sky to the other. It was the most spectacular site I have seen in a long time. THEN as the rainbow subsided the sun started coming up over the mountains and made the Blue Ridge Mtns look like they were covered in gold mylar! What a great way to start my day!!” 11:20:13 AM 10/16/06 “Nowslimmer, don't rub that in! My gramma is 90. It's amazing how much awfulness she's lived through. Lots of wonderfulness too.” 11:25:59 AM 10/16/06 “Wonderful? Awful? It's all in how you label it, isn't it?” 1:12:30 PM 10/16/06 “crazygurl, it's true, isn't it, that some of the most beautiful, spectacular, bring-tears-to-your-eyes wonders cannot ever be expressed by eithers words or pictures...the start of your morning sounded wondrous...it made mine easier to deal with...LOL...” 2:16:14 PM 10/16/06 “Glad I can help hairy. BTW..quite an interesting name there!” 2:45:24 PM 10/16/06 “aw shucks...you can call me Mata...LOL....” 2:59:25 PM 10/16/06 “She isn't that hairy, I've met the sweetheart! :-)” 3:03:49 PM 10/16/06 “last week i was going to work early for a few mornings and was out driving north right up against the foothills as the sun was just starting to come over the horizon, its a cool vantage point due to the drop in elevation to the east and the lack of trees or anything like that - and its just flat as allhell out to the east too. Anyway, i remember thinking on a couple of mornings taht the sky lit up, just like a sunset in reverse. it was 'nice'.” 3:47:33 PM 10/16/06 Good Morning. “Crazy ad Roam, you hae inspired me to get up earlier. =) No sunrise this morning for us. Too many clouds. Not much on the agenda today.....clean, can apple sauce again, go to Abby's school to work in their publishing center, do alittle massage for someone, maybe make banana bread. Actually, that sounds like a bit on the agenda. None of it will take very long though. Funny thing, I notice that if I post my to-do list I generally get it all done. If I don't, I'll be sitting by the woodstove with my library book or farting around online all day. Have a good day all.” 6:04:51 AM 10/17/06 “No rainbows or sun rise here today...over cast and rainy BUT..I still got the smile on my face that yesterday's inspiration produced! Sas..you can post your list...I'm sure there are numerous ones here that would love to hold you accountable! LOL BTW..I love home made applesause I haven't had it in years. We used to have an old fashioned Horse Apple Tree in our field and my grandmother would make everything out of those apples. We were in charge of bringing them in. It is awesome how many apples that one narly tree produced!” 8:06:05 AM 10/17/06 “Make some apple butter and you could probably sell it on here. First time I had homemade apple butter was when I moved to East TN when i was about 30 - I suddenly felt like I'd been cheated my whole life!” 8:59:53 AM 10/17/06 “No pretty sunrise here this morning. I've been up and cleaning since 5:30. The house is as cleaned as it's going to get for this realtor's caravan. I got 2 of the cats here at my mom's house with me. Her dog is quite interested. What am I going to do while I'm here? I get to clean her house for her! Oh the joy! I ought to be posting over at the rants and raves thread, come to think of it.” 9:24:13 AM 10/17/06 “Made a little trip to the Sports Medicine doc yesterday. So far, based on exam and x-rays, there are bone spurs, stenosis, and arthritis and marked strength difference between the two legs. I'm slated for a MRI on Sunday and back to the Sports dude on Monday. The good news: walking and biking are good for it...and so I walk (it's the stopping that's the problem, just like jumping off a cliff).” 9:30:53 AM 10/17/06 “Let her clean her own goddamn house. Take a nap instead.” 9:35:05 AM 10/17/06 “Dang Nimbleweenie, that's not good. Spinal stenosis is nasty stuff.” 12:25:47 PM 10/17/06 “Sass - I just googled it and everything described is pretty much the opposite of what I'm experiencing. I "tighten up" after sitting or lying and all is relieved when walking. The textbook description indicates I should have problems walking that are relieved when sitting. Who knows? The mri will provide the answers.” 3:11:08 PM 10/17/06 “HPM - so, tell us how you feel about your mother in law? Sorry to hear that Nimble. All's good here. It was down into the upper 30's one night last weekend. Highs were in the 60's. I'm loving this. It's back up in the mid 70's with rain today.” 3:33:48 PM 10/17/06 Jump to Page << prev
