The wind started up last night with gusts of 30 mph to cause drifting. All of the highways were closed until this morning. I'll have to start digging out, but it looks great for snowshoeing and skiing. There's more snow in the mountains and I can't wait to get up there when the roads get cleaned up.” 6:09:52 AM 12/26/02 It's your day, enjoy it. 6:10:21 AM 12/26/02 “yawn. yep, back to work for me today. Breakfast blend from "NM Coffee Company" and left over cherry coffee cake help a little.” 6:37:42 AM 12/26/02 “Rich we sure did get dumped on I measured close to 20” at my house. I’m glad I don’t have to go to work today.” 6:53:23 AM 12/26/02 “Pretty quiet here this am.” 7:12:30 AM 12/26/02 “You're right Pathman. I was hoping things would be hopping here to keep me going through the day at work....” 7:18:38 AM 12/26/02 “This is the biggest storm we've had in years.” 7:25:15 AM 12/26/02 “what up, peeps!! :-) talk about a white Christmas!” 7:55:12 AM 12/26/02 “hooray for white christmas'! mornin' all.” 7:59:19 AM 12/26/02 “Morning, Sass!” 8:01:30 AM 12/26/02 7:26:51 AM 12/27/02 “nice walk in the dark, coffee from one of my gift lbs, left over cheese ball on toast. Sunny, near 50 today. Big kids are heading to Santa Fe snowboarding. I should head to the Jemez XC skiing tomorrow.” 7:33:49 AM 12/27/02 “and now I must move lazy....” 7:40:16 AM 12/27/02 Morning, Everyone! “my company just bucked up for bagles for the handful of us who are here. gotta go grab one before the good ones are gone....” 7:41:38 AM 12/27/02 “I'm lazy myself! It is 19 here this morning brrrrrrr.” 7:44:15 AM 12/27/02 “"Free Pizza today for all that are working" here at the plant. Too bad they stipulated you had to be working, lol.” 7:46:55 AM 12/27/02 “Me thinks we're in for a stormy day, here at Whistler, today. With any luck, it'll clear this afternoon, for some awesome skiing. Hmmm .... might be wishful thinking” 7:52:17 AM 12/27/02 “I'd trade the bagels for the pizza..... Did you get my return e-mail, LS?” 7:53:10 AM 12/27/02 6:01:33 AM 12/28/02 “Good morning, I'm going out to take advantage of the new snow we have to do some X country skiing. I have a feeling that much of it will melt away by mid week with the warm temps we're supposed to get.” 6:10:06 AM 12/28/02 “Yo richb, you run outa snow, come on up. We've got about 2' on the ground and it ain't going anywhere until April - just get deeper. Snowshoeing has been great. Looks like it might be an old-fashioned New England winter.” 6:40:55 AM 12/28/02 “Morning all...is suppose to be in the mid to upper 50's today. I'm off for a hike..to test out the new pack! Thurs I hiked and forgot the new walking stick..it is already in the car for today's adventure!!!” 6:57:15 AM 12/28/02 “We have 8-10" of snow and it looks great. I was in Atlanta for the week for Christmas and I got a REI gift certificate. I went to two different stores in Atlanta (no REI's near me) asking for snowshoes. The salespeople were so funny, because they kept thinking that I was asking for ski boots. Then they would laugh and ask if I was from up north, and why hadn't I shopped for them up there. Duh! I asked if they were planning to build an REI in New Jersey anytime soon, and they said very helpfully, "Well no, we are opening one in Boston soon, that will be close to you." Grumble, grumble. Oh well, I am still very excited about my REI certificate. I may have to make a trek out to the store west of Philly. Does anyone have detailed directions for me? Hope that you all had a great holiday and are enjoying your weekend, which is snowy for some of us.” 9:19:33 AM 12/28/02 “lol, Lyndy. Yes, to us Southerners, Boston is "close" to New Jersey.” 9:26:03 AM 12/28/02 9:57:06 AM 12/28/02 “Snowshoes down South, LOL... Yep, I know the story. I think there MIGHT be a total of 10 pairs of snowshoes within 50 miles of here and I'm lookin' at one of 'em. I called both of the REIs in Atlanta looking for some insulated boots once. I could tell that their eyes were glazing over right through the telephone, LOL” 10:37:24 AM 12/28/02 “Thanks for the link Pathman. Now I just have to figure out how to get to one of those highways, or which one would be the best one for me from my direction. Tilt, you have snowshoes that you never use. Why is that? Are you planning to visit us TT'ers up north and do some snowshoeing? I can't tell you how pretty it is out today with all the snow on the bushes and trees, and the houses all decorated for the holidays. I got a Fujifilm digital camera for Christmas and when I figure out how to get the pictures from the camera to the computer and then to trailtalk, I'll post a picture of my house.” 2:04:19 PM 12/28/02 Directions? 3:36:57 PM 12/28/02 LyndyS “Why not shop on-line? This shows how to redeem your gift certificate: REI.com And here are plenty of Snow Shoes: Scroll down for Snow ShoesLINK NAME” 3:53:15 PM 12/28/02 “One of these days, Lyndys, one of these days... I got these puppies (Denali Ascents) a couple of years ago for a Mt. Rogers New Year's trip --- and the transmission fell outta the Exploder the day before I was supposed to leave! <GRRRRRRRR> They may be jinxed. Since then, it's been one of those 'comedy of errors' you see all the time on network tv, LOL. Sometimes I think G-D Doesn't Want Me To Snowshoe.” 3:57:18 PM 12/28/02 “I have never used snowshoes, so I'm thinking that picking them out at the store might be good, although I was looking at REI.com earlier today and the regular prices are pretty high. If I see a good pair on sale, I will order online. I have to go back and read the threads on snowshoes. Yes Pathman, I have used Mapquest, but I sometimes find it easier to have directions from someone who has been to that place. I spent hours looking for a store two weeks ago, that I had directions for from Mapquest. I misunderstood something about the roads, because after a lot of nonsense I ended up right in front of the store, and have no idea why it was where it was. Some old towns have street names specifically designed to confuse people. I went to a library recently that turned out to be on a one way road barely wide enough to be called a sidewalk. The only way I found it was to park in the town square and wander. Mapquest was useless in that quest too. The town was built of tiny cottages and tiny shops and was worth finding, though. I felt like I had stepped back in time and into another country while I was there. Once I used Mapquest to look up my old town in Maryland and it was neat to see the familiar streets laid out and the new places that were built after we moved to NJ. Well time to go learn about digital camera stuff.” 6:27:37 PM 12/28/02 “I never ask for directions. ;-)” 6:57:30 PM 12/28/02 “Hey wake up y'all! Time to make the coffee.” 6:11:19 AM 12/29/02 6:13:31 AM 12/29/02 “Good morning all. Gorgeous day in the northeast. Looks like a great day for snowshoeing.” 6:28:28 AM 12/29/02 “These snowshoes look to be more money than I thought. This may take a while. Have a nice day everyone and stay dry while playing in the snow!” 6:37:13 AM 12/29/02 “Hey Lyndy - Never new that you had an "old town" in Maryland. Where was that? I grew up in Catonsville, just west of Baltimore.” 6:43:01 AM 12/29/02 “Oops - not enough caffeine, yet. That's never "knew"!” 6:44:08 AM 12/29/02 “We have lots of snow in the mountains and it's around knee deep, so I think it will be around for a while even if we do get some rain. I went X country skiing yesterday and the conditions are great.” 6:48:13 AM 12/29/02 “Ah, yes, It's memories Sunday! Good old Baltimore and MD. Memories of Ft. Holibird, YMCA, YWCA, Servicemen's Center, Ocean City, Frederick, Hagerstown, Edgewood, Ft. Mead, Ft. Detrick, Johns Hopkins Univ.(Homewood Campus), Patapsco Valley State Park, and the Inner Harbor Redevelopment Area(A+) Oops, coffee's ready.” 7:41:53 AM 12/29/02 “coffee's brewing.” 8:04:43 AM 12/29/02 “I woke up with a cold :( This is the second one! I'm never sick!!!” 8:13:04 AM 12/29/02 “ahhh.... Too bad about the cold, crazygurl. We haven't had one in the house yet this year.” 8:20:26 AM 12/29/02 “there is of course old town alexandria.... a cold what gurl? have you tried putting another blanket on? - kidding of course, hope ya feel better soon!” 8:27:42 AM 12/29/02 “Hey nowslimmer. Now you have me going. Crab feasts, Ft. Washington, driving across the D.C. line for booze, ice skating on Piscataway Creek, sitting in duck blinds with my friend who never shot a duck when I was around, Washington D.C. Wax Museum (I worked there), -10F days in winter, +90's with 90% in summers. "Hay fever" like I've had nowhere else.” 8:43:47 AM 12/29/02 “you forgot to mention the 1/4 inch snows that completely stop traffic and the 3" thick ice storms that frequent the area.}” 8:49:28 AM 12/29/02 “my wife worries when I spend to much time here. ;-) I think I'll go scan some pics and watch the Sunday morning news. Hasta Luego.” 9:12:08 AM 12/29/02 “Did they have the Wackos on the Mall every weekend when you guys were there? They definitely did the summer of '95, <G>. One weekend the Czechs took over and brought in some Really Tasty brew. L: For cost-effective shoeing you might want to check out those MSR Denali Ascents. I've also been lusting for a pair of these. You know how the worst place to have extra weight is on your feet and all...” 9:16:30 AM 12/29/02 “Steiny, I lived in Cape Arthur, in Severna Park, MD, which is on an inlet of the Chesapeake Bay, near Ritchie Highway and Glen Burnie. It was a great place to live while being a kid. Lots of woods, a huge playground with ball fields, and a sandy beach to swim in when the nettles were not floating on the tide. Every year we went to the DC museams for school trips, and to Annapolis to watch the boats. Our neighbor had a boat and used to take us out fishing many times. We hated it when we moved to NJ from Maryland, but I pretty much like the northwestern part that I live in now.” 2:14:15 PM 12/29/02 “Yo Lyndy - Nice area. I used to have rich friends that lived down there. We'd hop in one's motorboat late at night and go down river and play on the Naval Academy training ships. A lot less national security in those days. Yeah, the nettles - we had some really bad years. Made swimming impossible. Almost all my school field trips were to DC - practically grew up in the Smithsonian. In seventh grade, some friends and I walked non-stop up and back down the Washington Monument. I'm not even sure you can use the stairs these days. Sure do miss those crabs and crab cakes!” 3:57:38 PM 12/29/02 Jump to Page << prev
