Good Morning, glad to see TT is back online. We have some fresh snow this morning and a few school delays to go along with it. This weekend is supposed to get really cold, but it feels like real winter this year compared to the last few years.

I agree, RichB, this has been a great, real winter so far this year. For the past three months, the average monthly temperature in my area has been at least one degree below the normal. I love it!

The usual 2" overnight dusting here, with a forecast of bitter cold sweeping in for the weekend. Our highway boss, who's also my fire chief, says that we've already gone through more salt and sand this year than all of last year. Most of the dirt roads in town are one lane until they find the time to catch a breather and start winging the snowbanks. Had our first chimney fire of the year last night. No big deal, the homowner had pretty much dealt with by the time we got there. Anybody else here know how much fun it is to fight a structure fire when it's 15 degrees?

Good to have tt back!

Same here Steiny. They are worrying about the costs of cleaning up so much snow since the winter just started. They do a poor job here cleaning the streets since it is a distressed city. Everything is one lane cowpaths on the side streets in big storms and our back road never gets plowed unless it becomes impassable. There always seems to be more fires in the winter and it looks rough for the guys fighting them in winter with ice build up on the equipment.

I guess the southeast didn't get the record warm temps, eh? I must have heard wrong on the weather channel. We are supposed to warm up a little here and then go back into the deep freeze with lows of 18 or so. But it looks like the snow is done for a few days. We had snow everyday for many days. Even had a couple inches last night, after having a gloriously blue sunny day.

Damn FPL blew my colors.
This weather creates problems for FPL, our electric suppler. They cannot handle anything abnormal. Worse, they do whatever they want, like cut us off on beautiful, clear days. I've lived in a lot of places and the service here is the worst I've ever seen. It is so undependable that I don't use electric clocks, radio wake-up settings, etc.

I'm getting flickering on the screen this morning and, at one point it blew my color scheme. I know that they are not supplying consistent power. We must be at the bottom of their power distribution scheme.(I have experience in the power industry.) I've been unable to recover to a reasonable color scheme on the computer and I'm am very unhappy.

Maybe I will finally record my settings after this, so that I can recover quickly from these upsets.

Have a great day, folks.

The snow will be a little sloppy here today with the warm up. I was going to Xcountry ski, but snowshoeing looks better now. There won't be enough glide for skis. Once it gets cold again the skiing will be good when the surface freezes up. Hopefully, we'll pick up a few more inches of snow.

Yo Lyndy - Had a week off from the daily commute while the head honchos went down to Norwell for the final installation of that project. Gave me a little time to get caught up on artwork for some syrup jugs I'm working on, and for lots of snowshoeing and shoveling. Next week, if South Shore Nature Center has made a final decision, I get to start modeling a 4' diameter 3D topo model of about 80 square miles of the South Shore. That'll be fun and I get to do it at home. If not, I have to start going back in every day to start working on tanks for the NC aquarium. That won't be as much fun.

Wind has really started to pick up here.

I usually don't see anyone snowshoeing since I'm off the beaten path. Skiing on roads you will see a snowmobile once in a while on the State forest land or game lands. They aren't so bad since they compress the snow for good glide. On weekends though there are too many of them and I'd rather snowshoe then to avoid them and their fumes.

LOL, my new floor is white. I am actually glad, now I can see the dirt, before it was so old and worn out I wasn't able to see anything. I guess I start complaining if the cleaning gets too much. For now I am very happy with the white.

Unless there's major thaw, we'll have snow pack into May this year. Back in the late 70s, I remember seeing snow piles in the deep woods in the middle of June. Here in my town, in the 30 years I've lived here, we've had snow every month of the year except July, and July 4, 1976, we had a townwide killing frost. 'Twas a great year to grow radishes! Right now I'm looking out my front window at a 20' mound of snow where the plow stops at the dead end.

That's a lot of snow. Last year, we got a measly 11 inches for the entire winter. The record for snow on the ground here is 102 straight days set in 1995, I believe. That was the year we had a record low of -21.

It's 5:30 am here in Redlands, California and 52 degrees out. We should hit the high 60's sometime today. I'm headed for the local mountains for an overnighter where it should be in the 40's or 50's today and down to the 20's overnight.

It's going to be a great day in the snow.

That 1995-1996 winter was the one where they were building our house. The builder ended up finishing about 4 months behind schedule, during which time we lived in the Poconos. But we've had several winters with temperatures at 0 degrees F or even -10 for days at a time, in the 1990's. But in the 1970's we never had temps even close to 0 deg F in NJ. So to me it seems like it is getting colder in the region in the winter, not warmer, overall. The summers, on the other hand, have gotten much more extreme, in the 90's for weeks, where as during the seventies, we never even ran the A/C in our house in NJ.

cold? snow?
Cold? I've experienced -40°F (-40°C) twice. In the early 50's in Wisconsin and during the 60's or early 70's in Minnesota.

Snow? I was snowed-in for three days during the winter of 65/66 outside of Pottstown, Penn.

I sure enjoy living in Florida, now. Winters are great. Hmmmmmmm. Gotta get moving. It's time to put on a t-shirt and bicycle to the pool hall for some daily games of one-pocket. Let's see, where are my sunglasses?
