He was stuck so many times with needles and IV that he had very few locations to put in new ones by the ned of his stay. I had to hold him down for nearly every one. Now newborns don't fight very hard, but they are so tiny and fragile, I almost cried watching those needles going into his scalp among other places.” 8:26:49 AM 4/11/08 “Those are great stories...MarkO...that was one of the funnier things I've read about stitches...normally not a funny subject...yours was priceless, Nimblefoot...I'm surprised the guy didn't deck you when you cut him loose...” 8:28:19 AM 4/11/08 “You'd have to be there to appreciate how drunk he was.” 8:36:11 AM 4/11/08 “I had just arrived home from work that day and had headed my truck up the steep drive and saw Henry standing up by the house with the sled at the ready. By the time I had backed into my spot down below and got out of the truck there he was standing at the bottom near me with his boot gone, etc, screaming his head off with blood gushing down his face. I was wearing a burgundy sweatshirt under my coat and I grabbed him and pressed his forehead into my stomach to stop the blood flow. Smart huh?........no blood stains. He screamed louder. Up the steep drive I went holding this struggling kid against me and into the house where we prepared for the long journey into town. Within five minutes Henry was running around the house with a wicker laundry basket on his head, goofing it up. To this day Henry's left eyebrow has a small space in the middle. Chicks dig scars...... Yup, a foot of April snow. This incident took place right around his third birthday, April 5, 1989. last edited: 4/11/08 8:45:20 AM” 8:41:46 AM 4/11/08 “Thanks for the laugh Mr. O and Nimblefoot. Your stories are just priceless.” 8:47:12 AM 4/11/08 “Great stories, LOL... One of the more painful needles I've had was when the doctor was stitching a feeding tube between my nostril and my upper lip. First he had to numb the area and the needle with the lidocaine really hurt going in right at the bottom of my nose and upper lip. There must be a lot of nerves right there. It was all for nothing because the stitches broke 3 days later and I pulled them out. I just taped the tube to my nose after that and wished I did that from the beginning.” 9:47:47 AM 4/11/08 “Geez Rich, I like your sense of humor in the face of all that stuff.........actually, in the face. Sass, I don't know what I would have done with my life if not for kids. I would certainly have survived but the on-going adventure sure has been interesting. What you need is at least another! Hoohoohahahahahahahahha!!!!” 10:20:01 AM 4/11/08 “I'm starting to wonder.... Not sure how the rest of the family would feel about it though. And when is it that one is considered too old to keep up with a baby?” 10:26:52 AM 4/11/08 “Good morning, today is the first day of trout season and I'm heading out to the stream in a few hours. The weather has improved, the rain stopped and the sun is coming out. Best of all, it's warm out so there's a good chance a mayfly hatch will take place in the early afternoon. Around here, that normally starts about 1 or 2 PM. That gets the fish moving and I plan on being there if it happens. If not, I should still catch something. Have a good day!” 4:27:20 AM 4/12/08 “Good luck RichB! Sounds like a fun day. We have rain and clammy cold here. Good hypothermia weather. This morning is my first softball practice in seven years. Have I mentioned how much I like NOT working Saturdays? Have a good Saturday everyone!” 4:53:51 AM 4/12/08 “Thanks, I always look forward to the start of trout season. Now, it really feels like spring.” 5:00:27 AM 4/12/08 “mmm......good trout meal.........its really cool (46)here and looks like a bangup day happening so I think I'll put on the pack and go for a day hike somewheres...... Got the yard all mowed and weed-eated yesterday and it looks great, garden is bloomin and growin and the dogs seem to be extra frisky this morning........coffee's just right too....” 5:41:39 AM 4/12/08 “Good morning...sorta...it's 29F, windy, gray and the ground is icy white...nasty...BUT next week, after Monday, it's supposed to warm up bigtime and are we EVER ready for it...temps are going to be in the 60's and we may even see some 70's! It is beyond my imagination... My sister told me she was allergic to sulfa meds so I decided to wait until Bill was home (bar night last night) before I started in case I had a bad reaction...I doubt if I'll have any negative issues but it pays to take care... It has been over a month that I have had this bout of pneumonia and been taking antibiotics...I told Bill it feels like I've been constantly coughing for a month...and, of course, I HAVE been constantly coughing... But, in a few days the sun will be out, the snow will have melted, the sulfa drugs will have kicked in and I shall be on the road to recovery...how cool is THAT! So, how is your Saturday shaping up?” 6:26:22 AM 4/12/08 “Hey Sass, my #3 son arrived one week after my 38th birthday. We were satisfied with two.........but stuff happens and here we go again. Perhaps if I had not had cumulative lower back injuries from all the work I had done it would not have been as bad carrying him. That kid was about 25 pounds at six months and he grew like a fat little weed into toddlerhood. I realized that three was plenty especially at that age.” 7:59:13 AM 4/12/08 “Mata, I didn't have a reaction to sulfa until I was on it for 5 days. Watch out for any signs of an itchy rash, and call the doc right away if you see any. I was at a summer class when my reaction started, and ended up in the ER. G had to drive 2 hours to come get me. The professor at least passed me through the class, though I missed 3 of the 5 days. Cold and rainy here. The baseball tourney was cancelled. We dodged a tornado last night. There was one ~6 miles south of here. We were just leaving the babysitter at home to get to the high school for a choir concert. A bit scary for sure. Time to wake the babe...have a great day.” 8:48:23 AM 4/12/08 “It's okay, SG, I'm already awake. Lol.” 11:27:03 AM 4/12/08 “Good Morning hugs...a chilly lower Alabama morning!!!!! Meanwhile six year old Danny wondered off in this small town hospital and found a fire alarm to pull. Hey, he was learning to read and the little red box said, PULL. MarkO 10:41:46 AM 4/11/08 lol...I used to care for elderly dementia patients & I had one guy...the SWEETest guy ever!!!.....was always pullling the fire alarm....I didn't understand the night shift girls flipping out....after all ...he was following directions.......we placed a ficus tree in front of the alarm...outa site...outa mind.....” 5:27:05 AM 4/13/08 “Morning all.....50 here and sunny, nice day brewing up.........church, play, church, play....that's about it..........the yard and garden look great....one jalapeno pepper has a bloom on it and my tomato plants got 'wee ones'....” 6:56:05 AM 4/13/08 “Morning. We didn't get the snow that was expected, just cold and wind. G's got his fingers crossed the baseball field dries out before tomorrow's game. I'm still deciding what I want to plant this summer, let alone waiting for the blooms! Got my cleaning done, working on my resume (have 2 jobs to appply for!), and things for school tomorrow. Making ice cream with the kids this week, I've got a lot of prep to do for that. Hopefully it goes well and the kids don't act stupid. :) Enjoy what's left of the weekend.” 9:42:36 AM 4/13/08 “Monday is upon us!!!! and May is almost here...woooo hoooooo!!!!.... ..I want so badly to go to the mothers day campout....BUT I also want to spend time with my daughter!!!...if she has to work Saturday, maybe I'll run down to KY on Friday....leave early Sunday am....she has the week after that off...& then there is Trail Days....so I will be there thru the week with her.... ...I have been looking for a good hummus recipe....anyone have one they love???? ...my daughter turned 35 the other day!!!.....we got a snowstorm & wasn't sure if we were going to be able to make it to the hospital!!!!....dammmmmm I feel old some days!!!!!!....I have had a stinging pain in my left pointy finger joint....I thought it was jammed at first....BUT after a few months,it still hurts... I think it may be arthritis!!!!...you just don't realise what you do with your pointy finger..... ...I have been meaning to ask....where is Dayhiker???...I miss his kids stories!!! ya'lll have a WONDERFUL day!!!!....we are supposed to get temps in the 30s tonight....sheesh!!!!!” 2:49:26 AM 4/14/08 “Good morning, The weather turned out better than expected this weekend. I went fly fishing Saturday, but the fishing was weak. I was hoping to see some kind of a mayfly hatch to fish, but it never happened. I caught some trout on top with dry flies, but they were small and the rest never really were on the feed. The water was pretty cold so I didn't expect fast, furious action. The fishing will pick up as the water warms and the insect activity increases. Sunday, I went for a short hike on the local woodlands. Divinity, check the hummus thread. There are some recipes listed there.” 4:48:48 AM 4/14/08 “Good morning. Friday's snow storm was attacked yesterday by a day filled with sunshine. We still had to plow to get the truck out of the driveway and also had to cut up and move some huge limbs that had broken from the white pines next to the road. Supposed to be in the 50's today and 60's the rest of the week. Perhaps spring has arrived. Got a lot of remodeling done over the weekend. I feel a little too motivated and should take a nap:) Have a nice day.” 5:56:01 AM 4/14/08 “Dayhiker can be found at Latta outdoors.” 6:36:16 AM 4/14/08 “Good mornin y'all. I'm feeling much better today after 4 days of a disgusting stomach bug. Still have a bit of bloat, but thats better than what's been happening.” 6:44:29 AM 4/14/08 “mornin'! we made vanilla ice cream, it came out very good! the consistency was fine for cones. The "sweet" little dwarf hamster has started biting...grrrr...” 7:08:48 AM 4/14/08 “Brrrrr.....39 degrees.....way too cold!!!!!....the heat is on......and sure glad I didn't plant anything yet!!!!!!! Morning hugs...... I have 2 vacation days starting tomorrow....wooooooo hoooo!!!” 3:12:07 AM 4/15/08 “Geeze, you southerners only have 7° on us. We're getting up to 60° today! =D Softball practice tonight, outside. I can't wait.” 4:22:46 AM 4/15/08 “mornin'! The days are getting sunny, but the ground is still frozen! :)” 5:31:03 AM 4/15/08 “How deep is the snow?” 5:36:01 AM 4/15/08 “Soaring into the 60's today with only a low of 42 last night. Lots of snow melting today and the river is going to be nice and high. The arrival of my baby chicks is postponed for a week because the chicken ordering guy forgot to do his job. No problem with that; there's plenty to do. I could be turning the soil for my garden in less than a week:) It's going to be an interesting summer. Chickens, expanded (again) garden, continuing with the house renovation, a little hiking, a couple of float trips, burying some toxic waste and who knows what else? To both of you who are left on TT, have a great day:)” 5:36:43 AM 4/15/08 “Knee deep and risin', Poppa.” 5:38:56 AM 4/15/08 “I dyed my hair dark purple this morning. It's only a temporary dye, so it isn't intense. I kind if wish it was. All the white hairs are a spectacular shade of purple, however. :) It was time for something different.” 7:40:55 AM 4/15/08 “purple hair! I want to do that!” 7:45:47 AM 4/15/08 “Yeah.................OK! Twigeater with purple hair?” 7:57:51 AM 4/15/08 “I can see that.” 8:05:59 AM 4/15/08 “hey it would match my sparkly purple underpinnin's... :)” 8:08:15 AM 4/15/08 “morning......coffee, watering the garden...these are a few of my favorite things.....well, a couple then (picky bunch...)” 4:04:49 AM 4/16/08 “Good Morning hugs!!! ..I am on vacation today...so I slept in...lol....of course I woke up @ 4am (my reg time) & could not go back to sleep for awhile..... ...Lee's 10 yr old daughter is here for spring break, & I took off to do somethings with her..... ...we are breaking cold temp records down here...brrrrrrrr.....in the 30s at night, but warms up nicely in the day..... ....coffee time!!!!...” 4:44:07 AM 4/16/08 “I got up early this morning and attacked a big stack of firewood next to the house and moved it down the slope, stacking it by the driveway. Following this I ripped out the half inch plywood subfloor in the dining area and stacked it on the deck. I am now down to 1950's linoleum and the original floor. Tomorrow I will install the 3/8" sub floor and at least have that portion ready for the eventual floor (which can't be done until I texture and paint the dining room walls). After that I'll put in the floor and install the wainscotting. After that comes the kitchen...redoing existing oak cabinets, installing tile on the floor, swapping the cabinets from one side of the room to the other (to accomodate the swapping of the range and sink) and tiling the counter tops and back splash areas. Then the bathroom, doubling the size and installing a walk-in tile shower and then start up stairs which will entail a dormer, a bathroom and moving some walls to create some decent bedrooms. That's it for today, though. Lol.” 8:33:35 AM 4/16/08 “LOl....you sure keep busy Nimble...I sure can't keep up with ya!!!!” 8:37:29 AM 4/16/08 “My back aches for you Nimblefoot.” 11:17:56 AM 4/16/08 ““I dyed my hair dark purple this morning. I'm heading out to go fly fishing this evening and the stream should be perfect. Last week they were a bit too high from the rain we had. I'm expecting to do a lot better than last week and expect to see mayflies out and the fish moving to get them. last edited: 4/17/08 5:05:46 AM” 5:04:42 AM 4/17/08 “2nd day of vacation....we are going to Dauphin Island to the sea lab!!! ...my boss would not give me Fri off...& I'll be *^**^%%%& that is the day they are going salt water fishing ..I wanted to go...I have never been....and they are going without me :( ...but anyway...it is supposed to warm up & be sunny today.... ...everyone have a GREAT day!!! ...& behave!!!!” 5:06:46 AM 4/17/08 “I rewarded myself for actually working yesterday and went to the Hole in the Wall. I walked out about $250 ahead. Money for shower tile:) Yard work and house work today:) Only a few tattered remanents of snow are clinging to the shaded sidehills and the road edge.” 5:21:25 AM 4/17/08 “putting the siding on the hut today in the garden...........i'll post pics on webshots later...........have a great day......” 5:40:33 AM 4/17/08 “mornin'! you people are so industrious! I need to start copying you...LOL... Last night while walking by the bog, we saw a snapping turtle making it's way to the water. Unfortunately, it headed right for the beaver fence and got stuck in it. I tried to dislodge it with a stick, but that wasn't working...having had a run in with a snapper and it's smelly defense glands (and smelling that same odor again) I wasn't picking it up bare handed. Ana ran to the KarenT's and got gloves - she distracted it's snapping jaws with the stick while I pulled it free. All the while this was going on, the beaver went for a swim, and we saw several deer...” 6:04:45 AM 4/17/08 “That's a cool rescue mission. Good thing you were there at just the right time to help the turtle.” 6:09:27 AM 4/17/08 Jump to Page << prev
