I got sick yesterday and developed a fever so I think my infection came back. I went to the doctor yesterday and was put back on the antibiotic I was on a week ago. They did some blood culture tests, but the results aren't back yet. I think the meds are working because my fever broke this morning and I'm feeling better. I hope it doesn't come back. I read this at Backpacker.com about Matahari. "Mataharihiker is in Regions Hospital in St Paul. She went to the local Hospital because she was having breathing difficulties. They said she needed to go to Regions for further care. They did a CAT scan and determined that she had a growth near her larynx which was imparing her breathing. They put a trach tube in so she cannot talk. She was in ICU but is now out of ICU. They did a biopsy and they have not got the results back yet." I still didn't get my fever back and don't feel sick. I got the report on my blood cultures yesterday and they were all positive for strep so my infection is back. My doctor added another antibiotic to the other one I'm taking. Also, she wants me to go for an EKG test on Monday because strep bacteria can infect the heart valves and damage them so she wants to check if the bacteria has invaded the valves. I hope not because if it is there, I'll have to go back in the hospital on IV antibiotics. I've got a couple of rooms squared away for the impending relative visits, so that's good. I just need to vacuum. I'm going to remove all of the aquatic plants I have floating around in the main pond; that way, the fish won't just lollygag near the bottom at feeding time any more. With the plants there they just eat the roots and the algae clinging to them. No more snacks in the pool. I had to made make the coffee a little weaker than usual today. For some reason it's hitting me the wrong way lately. At least it tastes good. I still prefer my millstone breakfast blend to the kona blend though. I caught 5 trout which wasn't bad considering how low the water was. A few got away too. Normally the bigger fish are the ones that fall off the hook. I'm still waiting for my results on my echocardiogram from yesterday. My doctor never got back to me yesterday afternoon. I'm hoping in some way that was a good sign. Can't wait for that it's too humid out. My echocardiogram came back normal and I'm still on my antibiotics. Thursday I have a PET scan scheduled so they'll check that too. I hate that test and don't like staying that still in the machine for that long. Divinity, fly fishing is fun. My favorite way to fish. You learn a lot too about bugs and stream life. Matahari, when your throat heals enough and if you still have the trache in you should be able to talk by covering the end of the tube to block off the air flow and just divert the air up into you vocal cords and talk like you normally would. That worked for me, although I sounded like I was talking underwater. Still, it was a voice and it worked. I had my PET scan yesterday and I'm glad that's over with. I almost flipped out in the tube. Normally these tests like MRI and CT scans don't bother me, but with a PET scan they make you keep you arms above your head for a half hour while they scan your torso. I separated my shoulder in a bicycle crash 12 years ago and it hurts after a few minutes in that position so that's the part that bothers me. Being stuck in that tube with pain and no voice to tell the technician what's going on isn't too pleasant. There's just not that much room to move my arms in a position that doesn't hurt. Finally, I grabbed my one arm with the other and pulled into a less painful position and made it through the rest of the test. I'm not looking forward to another PET scan. If I ever have to have another I'll consider taking a double dose of Roxicet before I go. I won't get results until next week and I'm not in any hurry to see them anyway.” 4:41:52 AM 7/11/08 “RichB, That's something I work on with masectomy patients who have to have radiation. They generally have horrible range of motion after having their pecs cut up and yet have to keep their arms above their heads for 45 minutes at a pop (for the first rad. appointment only). It's miserable stuff. You have my sympathy. But, my point is, a massage therapist might be able to help you with that. I hope you get great results quickly from your scan. Mata, really glad you're straightening out those new doctors. You are in my thoughts daily. I hope you go home well and strong soon. Divinity, my time with my family has been wonderful. Watching Abby run in a pack with her cousins is a joy. And for once, everyone seems to be getting along well. I'm seeing old family friends and cousins I haven't seen since my wedding. It has been fun. Yesterday was the rehersal and pig roast, today is the wedding, and tomorrow is my Grandma's 92nd birthday. Had an interesting talk with an oncologist here. Not only did I like him but he knows the Mayo oncologist who runs the study I am on. I have decided, after talking with him, to put everything on hold for a couple of months. I need to get to Michigan to see my folks...that is a priority! My main Mayo doc does not believe it is cancer...which means he agrees with me... The ENT pack was in here and I told them I do not want to go to a nursing home but want to be taught how to maintain my own care...they seemed to think this would work. Now, if my heart would just settle down.
