I had a dream last night that a friend was using some equipment to do some excavating in my back yard. I can't recall the details but he tells me he had trouble with the equipment and it went in the pool. I get to the house and jump in the pool and am pulling out rubble the size of a motorcycle helments. There are huge clumps of the orange Alabama red clay everywhere. The water is murky. I'm trying to get the big stuff out so I can turn the pool pump on. I reach down, grab a foot, get it above the water and they're are two small feet in little girls shoes, I keep pulling and it was Emma(my 6 y.o.). In the dream she had jumped or fallen in the pool and hit her head, presumably on a boulder. This wakes me up at 2:30. I wanted to be at work by 4:30. I got here at 6:30. First, congratulations to Sass and Birch...what's with the bad dreams, Sass? Do they always come with your pregnacies? I'm assuming you are NOT pregnant, dayhiker, so I hope your nightmares stop. RichB, you've been on my mind a great deal lately as I've been staying in motels on Lake Michigan watching fishermen. I spent 2 nights in Ludington watching salmon fishermen watching salmon swimming by them...last night around sunset I counted over 30 boats near the harbor entrance. And there were easily 50 fishermen on the pier leading out to the lighthouse. It's been foggy for days so I've been sleeping to the sound of foghorns. I see fishermen and I think of you, RichB...you have all the positive vibes I can muster coming your way for a speedy recovery with minimum discomfort. Good luck on Monday...anything is better, just about, than endless chemo... I took the ferry across the puddle from Michigan to Wisconsin but couldn't bear to leave the lake. This time my motel room is only 50 feet from the beach...I can hear the sound of the waves clearly and I love it. I'm in the small town of Algona. I got a bag night in before the weather turned. A beautiful night perched high above the Manistee River just off the trail hanging in my most comfortable Clark hammock. Unfortunately I wasn't feeling strong enough to deal with the following days rain, wind and fog and continue camping. I take what I can and am grateful. One perfect night with nighttime temps in the 40's, cool enough to justify a fire with a half moon and the sound of the river below...it just doesn't get much better than that. Traveling with a laptop also has it's plusses...for someone who cannot speak this allows me to let those who care about me know I am well. It was just too low and the fish were spooked. I could see them scattering as I walked upstream. I left after hiking upstream for a mile and fishing a few holes with no results. It's supposed to be 90 and humid today and it's warm and sticky already. I'm going for a bike ride soon before it gets really hot this afternoon. Matahari, glad to hear you are out traveling and having fun. For talking again you might want to consider getting an artificial larynx. They sounds kind of robotic, but it's a voice and light years better than writing on paper. You can talk on the phone with it. They sell them online and insurance normally pays for prosthetic devices. The company I got mine from handled all the paperwork and it was at my door in two days.” 6:08:31 AM 9/14/08 “Morning, all.
