I momentarily wondered what my TT friends were doing on that particular day and then I went about my business. I hope you all are well.” 4:22:13 PM 11/10/09 “I am happy!!!!! ...hello everyone!!!!!” 4:42:03 PM 11/10/09 “Sarge, please quit hacking on this computer.” 5:13:36 PM 11/10/09 “Hi.” 5:36:07 PM 11/10/09 “I missed the TT peeps.” 6:21:49 PM 11/10/09 “It rained for about 24 straight hours here thanks to TS Ida. Glad that is over.” 4:47:07 AM 11/11/09 “Good morning.” 5:31:18 AM 11/11/09 “I now have a stint. Need one more after about one month. It is a little moist in Gainesville this morning. Best wisher.” 5:33:31 AM 11/11/09 “peace paul” 1:26:09 PM 11/11/09 “test...” 1:26:44 PM 11/11/09 “What is the limit on number of words per post?” 1:28:44 PM 11/11/09 “http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2009/nov/11/rock-slide-shuts-down-us-64-through-polk-county/ another landslide” 1:29:25 PM 11/11/09 “chili, I believe it is contractions that are killing the post, not word count.” 2:04:39 PM 11/11/09 “Good eve!!!!” 5:06:26 PM 11/11/09 “Good Morning!!!... ...blue skies in Lower Alabama finally!!!... ...going Christmas shopping tonight!!!...what yall want???( sorry...no contractions) Has anyone heard from RichB lately???” 2:45:22 AM 11/12/09 “Good question, wonder how Rich is doing. Sass, Joe doing ok?” 4:25:04 AM 11/12/09 “Good morning, when I got back from the hospital last week Trail Talk was down. It seemed to have some glitches yesterday and when I posted the message never appeared. I had lung surgery last week and everything went okay. I hiked a few miles Saturday and Sunday, then developed a low grade fever on Monday, but it only lasted a day. Next week, I will get my stitches out and maybe find out when he plans to work on my other lung. I only have three incisions on my left side, one where they put the camera in, another where they inserted the tools and the other for the drainage tube. He did a great job and I did not even take pain meds when I got home. I had some pain, but the side effects from the pain drugs seemed worse than the pain. While I was in the hospital my voice prosthesis started leaking so it had to be replaced. I would have been home after one day, but stayed an extra day to have that done. I just hope they start lasting longer. that one fit well, but only lasted 5 weeks before it leaked. Tomorrow, I will be getting another esophagus dilation so back in the OR again. I should be able to eat better after tomorrow.” 4:45:20 AM 11/12/09 “Richb what happens when a voice prosthesis leaks? I am not familiar with this at all. Morning all. It is very dark, dreary and overcast today, with lots more wind and rain. We have received 4.45 inches of rain since the storm started on Tuesday. Cool. I have to go downtown to pick up a permit this morning, then Im freeee! Until I go pick up Laurel from school. ;P I think I will go for a walk in the rain after I get back from errands. I love walking in this weather. Sorry for the effed up punctuation. I tried posting earlier but the code would not accept it.” 5:06:11 AM 11/12/09 “When a voice prosthesis leaks, water or food will enter the airway and run right into the lungs. Not good because that can cause pneumonia, besides making you cough your brains out trying to get it out. The way a voice prosthesis works is a hole in created between the esophagus and trachea, a silicone tube is inserted in the hole that has a one way valve in it. To talk you divert air up through the valve and into the esophagus. The esophagus vibrates creating sound. The problem is when the valve fails, water and food will enter the airway. Yeast build up can make the valve fail, sometimes something just gets stuck in there and will hold the valve open until you clean it out with the cleaning brush. If cleaning fails to fix it, it probably needs replacement. I plan on getting a plug for mine. They sell a plug you can insert in the event of a leak until you can get to the clinic to get the unit replaced.” 5:22:19 AM 11/12/09 “Yikes! How the heck do you clean it out? Is it a hole from the outside of the throat, or form the inside?” 5:26:13 AM 11/12/09 “Good morning peeps! We have four days off here....no school for conferences and hence no work for me so I can keep an eyeball on my B. Dayhiker, Birch is doing much better. He finally got some antibiotics and seems to be getting some bacteria back in his guts. Poor guy lost more weight. I posted a link to his picture and testimonial on the jetboil site. RichB Im glad your surgery went well. Your recovery times amaze me. You are an ironman!! And NS, Im glad you got your stint. Heal quickly.” 5:36:07 AM 11/12/09 “Access to the prosthesis is easy. There is a inch hole in front of my neck. I no longer breathe through my nose and mouth. My larynx is gone. That is why I cannot talk normally. All I need to do to clean the prosthesis is look in a mirror and brush it out. I would like to get to the point where I can get away without using a mirror.” 5:44:46 AM 11/12/09 “I saw that jetboil link. Very nice.” 6:44:43 AM 11/12/09 “I see snow on the mountains if I look out of the office window. Looks like we might get a good winter for snowsports. Tomorrow morning I will go to the garage to get the winter tires on. Yesterday I had a date. Nice guy. Nothing wrong with him. Nothing exciting to report.” 2:35:11 AM 11/13/09 “so, ive posted twice to this dang thread, and coudnt get anything to post. ug. trying it without apostrophies, slashes and dashes, etc. i am up too early on my day off. going to get some work done and hoping for a nap later.” 3:04:13 AM 11/13/09 “Did you know that field mice can growl? Me neither. Sweetness (Laurel named her) the outdoor cat has been catching 2-3 rodents per day, but brought me a live one this morning. I put it in a Tupperware bin, and one of the indoor cats swatted at it. This mouse can growl. I am impressed. It has spirit, it may live! I will hold onto it until Laurel gets home, so she can see it. After that, who knows...cat toy, perhaps? >;D” 5:13:24 AM 11/13/09 “my post disappeared again.” 5:34:34 AM 11/13/09 “Watch that punctuation. I now avoid most of it.” 5:35:47 AM 11/13/09 “Crap, mine did not post either. We are doing a cookout and marshmallow roast around the firepit with a three other families tognight. SHould be fun. It_s a shame that I have to copy each post before I hit submit, just in case.” 5:42:45 AM 11/13/09 “treebait, I bet one of your larger koi would love to have at it.” 5:43:23 AM 11/13/09 “Sass - it is the apostrophes. I didn_t realize how much I use contractions until this fiasco.” 5:43:44 AM 11/13/09 “opie - sipsey trip afoot” 5:44:11 AM 11/13/09 “The koi will not eat right now, the water is too cold. I bet the cats would love it though. I am sure Laurel will want to keep it. Not a chance.” 5:46:22 AM 11/13/09 “We had some mice make their home in the bottom of my grill. They pulled the material from the underside of the grill cover to make a nest. My wife had been grilling, I was finishing up, and I kept hearing something. It was a mouse with babies. Another mouse was inside the grill cover. The mama finally grabbed the babies and took off. She dropped one and it was on our deck. The kids were all curious if she_d come back to get it. 4 hours later she hadn_t so I had to get rid of it. The next day the kids asked about it. I lied.” 5:51:20 AM 11/13/09 “The squeaker is hiding in a cardboard tp tube. I fed it an almond sliver, and got it to drink some water.” 6:33:32 AM 11/13/09 “dayhiker, I read that somewhere. I keep thinking that I ve proofed my posts for apostrophes but I guess they keep slipping through.” 1:45:16 PM 11/13/09 “Good morning, I went for my esophagus dilation yesterday and it worked great. I have a lot more room and can eat much easier now. I just hope it lasts. This is the first one since my last throat reconstruction that worked so well right away. My voice is better too since there is more room for air inside. He did some biopsies in a few spots in the back of my throat so we will see what happens with that next week. In September he had to remove a section a few weeks apart because cancer came back despite clean margins on the first resection. I just hope it did not come back again. He is keeping a close watch on it to catch it while small. It is gloomy and misting rain today. It does not look bad out though and they said it would not rain much. I am going for a hike soon.” 5:58:38 AM 11/14/09 “Glad all went well Rich. Enjoy your hike! I have midtour briefing today. It will be hours of sitting and listening to stupid questions to glean a few small tidbits of useful info. But on the bright side, it means we are almost half way done....just a few more days!” 7:01:21 AM 11/14/09 “well...poo...I forgot about apos&*^^(*&%.....anyways, yall ( I almost did it again...) have a GREAT day!!!!!I have next week off so I am off to Sipsey!!!” 2:57:03 AM 11/17/09 “Hello.” 10:28:11 AM 11/17/09 “Good morning sunshines!” 5:35:39 AM 11/18/09 “The leaves are just about gone. Oaks are about the only thing still holding on. Everything else has maybe 20% of the canopy.” 5:50:27 AM 11/18/09 “Something ate my bunnies......In other news.....It is a nice morning......TT really does suck on dialup.....” 6:30:35 AM 11/18/09 “Same here, Dayhiker. Cool, rainy day again here. I have the music up loud, to keep me moving. It helps.” 7:15:45 AM 11/18/09 “Seems like when I_m dragging I have to break out the honkey tonk music to get me going. I_m indifferent to the music but it just has that something that provides pep.” 7:24:06 AM 11/18/09 “Del McCoury just popped up on iPod shuffle.” 7:43:56 AM 11/18/09 leggo my eggo! 9:22:41 AM 11/18/09 “I cannot get this to post...grrrr...I slept in this am until 4:40 am....I*ll try to get up at 4, so I can grace y*all with my presence!!Hugs to all!!!” 5:49:01 PM 11/18/09 “poo...took me 3 tries to post...grrr....” 5:49:38 PM 11/18/09 “Leave out punctuation if necessary.” 6:26:59 PM 11/18/09 Jump to Page << prev
