It's the moon's fault!
It was beautiful last night in the western sky, just a thin sliver directly below Venus. It looked like a cup, ready to catch Venus, should it fall. It must be the moon's fault for bringing out the nightcrawlers.

Go easy on the coffee, aero!
You are using shade grown coffee, I hope!
Shade-grown coffee: Conservation friend or foe?
Only recently has it come to light that the way coffee is produced profoundly affects migratory bird diversity and other ecological indicators of environmental health."
"Next, we present the changes that have been reshaping the coffee landscape over the past couple of decades--changes that seek to bring greater yields and higher income to the rural sector, but that may be doing so at tremendous environmental and social cost to the region in the long-term."
White Paper: Coffee, Conservation and Commerce

"By choosing shade-grown coffee, coffee drinkers not only help common birds that use shade-coffee plantations during the winter like the Baltimore Oriole and Ruby-throated Hummingbird, but also a host of at risk WatchList species including:
Swallow-tailed Kite Black-throated Blue Warbler
Short-tailed Hawk Hermit Warbler
Chuck-will's-widow Cerulean Warbler
Buff-bellied Hummingbird Kentucky Warbler
Greater Pewee Painted Bunting
Wood Thrush Audubon's Oriole

OK, I'm wired!
It was called "Custer's Last Blend", and I don't think it was shade-grown. I made it good and strong, though.

I do have some shade-grown at home-- Peruvian something or other.

I always get the coffee ready for the next day the day before. Does that make sense?

I pour the water into the maker and the coffee into the filter right before I leave work the night before. Does that make more sense?

That way I can make it as strong as I want. Of course, the only other person who drinks regular has to dilute it.

Yup, it's lots easier to dilute it if you need to... like Michaelangelo always said, it's really tough to put the marble back on the statue.

Good Moanin' Another day in the upper 30's here in NW Wisconsin. As the snow and ice begin to melt it slides gradually from my metal roof on a slow trip to the ground. There is just enough cold that nothing has yet actually broken from the roof and the result is that a four and one-half foot sheet of snow and ice has slid from the edge of my roof, curving toward the house. The more it slides the more it curves to the extent that icicles are now parallel with the ground and one almost touches my back bedroom window. It looks similar to pictures of being inside the curl of a wave of surf. Wish I had a scanner to post pix. Maybe if I quit buying other toys...

Get pictures, get pictures!

We had some really nice grumbler thunderstorms last night, and of course more rain, for the 4th day in a row. What's on tap for today? More rain! I don't mind though, it's easier on the eyes than bright glaring sun. It softens up the colors around here, and all the trees look beautiful and somber.
