I added 3 ounces of 800+ fill power goose down to my 20 degree sleeping bag by cutting a small opening in the baffles and restitching it. What a difference! The loft is now 7 inches and I'm sure I'll get no cold spots since there's little chance the down can move around in the baffles. This 800+ fill is simply amazing and an incredible miracle of nature. I only found 4 small feathers in the entire bag. The stuff is like snowflakes. It blows up and expands like nothing I've ever seen. I can't see how man will ever make a better insulator than this. I did some research about this before I started the project and checked the baffling in my bag to see what I could gain from it. When you add down overfill the main thing you achieve is minimizing cold spots because there's enough down to fill in all the gaps if say a knee or elbow would press against the bag. After looking at my bag I could tell I could gain quite a bit of performance by adding down so I went ahead with it. Feathered Friends claims it adds 5 degrees when their bags are overfilled, but I think I gained more warmth than that and will know for sure what I gained when I test it in the next cold snap. I slept OK at 18 in it, but I think now it's good to 10 at least in a tent.
