Banned Substances Found in Armstrong's Hotel

Lance Armstrong's record setting seventh Tour de France victory,
along with his entire Tour de France legacy, may be tarnished by
what could turn out to be one of the greatest sports scandals of
all time.
Armstrong is being quizzed by French police after three banned


substances were found in his South France hotel room while on
vacation after winning the 2005 Tour de France.
The three substances found were toothpaste, deodorant, and soap
which have been banned by French authorities for over 75 years.
Armstrong's girlfriend and American rocker Sheryl Crowe is quoted
as saying "we use them every day in America, so we naturally
thought they'd be ok throughout Europe."
Along with these three banned substances, French authorities also
found several other interesting items that they have never seen
before, including a backbone and a testicle.”

I sure hope his retirement wasn’t some big publicity stunt to build up for a “glorious comeback”. I would be really disappointed if it was just a marketing stunt.”

time Tour de France winner, said he won't return to the event
next year and will stay retired from cycling.
The 33-year-old Armstrong, who quit in July following his
latest Tour triumph, had been considering racing again next year
to answer allegations that he used performance-enhancing drugs
during his career.
``I'm happy with the way it ended,'' Armstrong said in a
statement on his Web site. ``I'm not coming back.''
French newspaper L'Equipe said last month that six of
Armstrong's samples from the 1999 Tour showed traces of the
banned hormone erythropoietin, or EPO. Armstrong denied the
allegations and said on Aug. 26 he was considering legal action
against the French newspaper.
Armstrong had said Sept. 6 that the ``smear campaign out of
France'' had awoken his competitive side.

This is all nuts. The worst problem is the ethical issue of the results released and linked to a specific person. There are also serious chain of custody and specimen integrity issues. He probably has grounds for a lawsuit on that basis, violation of the conditions under which he allowed the specimen to be tested.”

Controversy, scandal and refutation aside, Armstrong conceded that he spoke too soon when he said earlier this month that he was prepared to make a comeback just to spite French organizers of the world's most challenging bike race.

"I am happy with the way my career went and I am happy with the way it ended. I am not coming back," Armstrong said. "There is no way I can go back there (France). I would be crazy, so why don't we all just say I am not going back."

Armstrong retired after his seventh consecutive Tour de France victory and said that anyone would be more than content with a record like that.
