It was my understanding that Cheryl came along after the Marriage of Lance and his ex collapsed. I could be wrong. I enjoyed his book and am in agreement that he is probably difficult for us mere mortals to get along with. If memory serves, he had another girlfriend that actually saw him through the cancer. Oh well, this beats the other Hollywood breakups. Who buys all those dopey magazines at the checkout?

Kennett is all abuzz...
When I saw Cheryl last month in town, I could sense something, she had a distraught look about her and there was an aura that said..."leave me alone". Usually, she is very approachable, but not this time. And, yes, I live in Cheryl's home town where her brother and parents live. I have met her in passing at Walmart. She is not a skank. She's a genuine nice person who has never forgotten her town, family and friends. My yoga instructor and Cheryl go back to elementary school and Cheryl always gets together with her friends when she comes home. I feel bad for her in this. Lance dropped more than the hammer this time. He actually dropped a genuinely nice person.

Shame on anyone for slamming her.

ROME, Ga. (AP) - Look out, New York. Lance is ready to run.

Lance Armstrong told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he plans to compete in the New York City Marathon on Nov. 5.
"We were looking at the Chicago Marathon, but a conflict arose with the date, and New York seems to fit our schedule better," Armstrong said in a telephone interview. "I've been training some, but I wouldn't call it serious. It's just something to fill a void in my life after I quit competing as a professional cyclist."

Armstrong, preparing for his first marathon, retired from cycling after winning an unprecedented seventh straight Tour de France last year.

Before committing to become a full-time cyclist, Armstrong competed in triathlons as a teenager. He indicated he has no plans to run marathons or enter triathlons professionally, at least not at this time.

Lance's ex-wife speaks on Oprah:

Kristin says she gave up her independence after getting married, and in doing so, lost part of herself. The opinionated woman she once was slowly eroded, Kristin says, and she became a "yes" woman who tried to please everyone but herself.

"It wasn't Lance saying, 'You should be like this' or 'Do this,'" she says. "It wasn't him making a mandate and me being a mouse. It was me trying to emulate whatever I thought would be the perfect wife or the perfect mother. … We think we're trying to please somebody for the sake of our marriage, but then if you ask Lance today if he appreciated that, I think he would probably say, 'Well, that wasn't the woman that I fell in love with.'"

Armstrong says he 'hated racing' at the end
Retired seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong says he does not miss competitive cycling and that he hated racing during the late stages of his legendary career.

"I don't miss it at all," Armstrong said in a wide-ranging interview in the latest issue of Men's Journal. "I miss the training. I miss the team atmosphere. I miss my guys.

"But the last couple of years I would even say I hated racing. The only peaceful times were when I was at training camps, alone or with a few teammates, or at the races, in the hotel room, at the dinner table with my guys.

"That's the stuff I really love. I won't miss the Tour."

BOOM! Lance drops it on Pound, WADA and IOC

Lance: Suspend or Remove Pound Sunday, June 18, 2006, requires free registration

TO: Those Interested in International Sports:

On August 23, 2005 the French tabloid L'Equipe published an article alleging that I used performance enhancing drugs, based on a research report leaked out of a French laboratory. I knew that was just another attempt by individuals in France to try to discredit me and my accomplishments in France's Tour de France. After the article was published, many in the Olympic movement called for an investigation into the facts alleged in the article. The IOC Athletes Commission and the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations publicly criticized the French laboratory for its conduct and called for disciplinary proceedings against the laboratory, but the President of the World Anti-Doping Agency, Dick Pound, blocked those efforts.

Is "Dick Pound" a real person's name? Sounds like one of Sarge's trolls.

There's an interview with Pound in the latest Outside.

Well worth reading.

He's a Montrealer, NF.

He tends to step on toes, verbally speaking. He is an outstanding and upstanding lawyer, but is completely without tact, IMO.

more power to him. if you still got the drive and can still be competetive - go for it.

i don't think he retired over the cancer deal, just a hiatus to deal with it.

good to see him near the front, even if he doesn't win.

His teammate Contador, I believe, is favored to win the race. Team Astana will dominate overall. Between Armstrong, Leipheimer (top US rider) and Contador, they are going to rock the tour.

Lance is certainly well positioned, but its still VERY early in a really long race. Way too early to proclaim him the winner.

This year's race is awesome because it will end with three days of climbing and that is what separates the men from the boys. Lance is a strong climber and time trialer as are Levi and Contador.

Gonna be fun!!

Looks to me like Lance wants to drop the hammer...........right upside Contador's head.

Jeeze, Lance is just gonna have to wipe his ass with Contador next year. Give Lance another year of training hard. It's gonna be a nice match-up between Astana and Radio Shack. Lance and Levi will be a powerful combination. Contador, while an amazing rider, really comes across as a cocky prick.

He acknowledged Lance Armstrong as a great rider but that does not require admiration. I gather the comment was more in the vein of Armstrong not being a role model. I can understand that. Lance Armstrong has made more than his share of enemies over his career.

My guess is Contador just soiled his own bed. Armstrong is gone from the team. Contador is complaining the team did not support him and he's looking for a new berth. He's a good rider... but also trouble down the line. He's not team rider and so he's going have a very limited life span with any team that picks him up. Can you say "flash in the pan" I give him another four yeats of top performance unless he chages his tactics. After that he's toast.

i view his comment about Armstrong to be on par with Kobe Bryant saying that Jordan was a good bball player but he doesn't admire him.

True. I guess the difference to me is one is fact based on performance and the other is emotional based on personal opinions. The two don't seem mutually inclusive to me.

I acknowledge of lot people as great leaders, performers but I would not say I admire them. I grant Mickael Jackson was a great performer... but admiration is not even on my list in that case. That's all I'm saying.
