What was done to you was wrong, OPIE. Thankfully, no violence was involved and you're okay.

I'd like to think if I were to come upon someone who was robbing my home, I'd let it happen. My initial reaction to your post suggests otherwise.

Imagine the lives of those who ripped you off. No peace. Quite sad.

Very sorry to hear about your mis-fortune.....at least they didn't trash your place (I hope).

One of my friends got robbed a few years back while he was on vacation...to make a long story short...the thieves backed a truck into his yard and took everything away...including used toothpaste, underarm deodourants, tooth brushes etc....just like moving day.

Sorry to hear about you getting ripped off. It truly sucks. However, even though it's really trite sounding (especially now), it's also quite true:

'The best things in life aren't things.'

You said you still have your backpacking and scuba gear, so you've hung on to what I think - this - group will agree is the MOST important thing, which is FREEDOM - freedom to leave this scum-infested Hellpit for the two weeks our Overlords grant us to get out and be in the REAL thing - the outdoors

How can yawl say "at least . . ." The feeling is that one has been violated. ! Someone only violated my car, and took clothing and many personal items when I was traveling. Can't imagine what one feels when some stranger has been in your home. What DIDN'T they touch?

About 15 years ago my garage was broken into and they only got away with a few small items before my dog scared them off. They ripped off a van down the street and started going house to house and loading it up. They got caught when they broke into a garage and a homeowner held them at gunpoint until the police arrived.

yea...i had thoughts about not using my toothbrush last night...what if...

i had a long talk with my fish..and the bastards refuse to talk or go downtown to do a police sketch, that's ok, let see how long they can go with out food...they'll talk damnit!!

They could have been malicious, they could have easily shredded my leather couch, taken or ruined all my work clothes, and shattered my saltwater tanks...

as i walked around the neighborhood talking to neighbors, i realize i'm just about the only one without a deadbolt or wedgeplate

I've had my car broken into twice. Both times it was right outside my apartment while I was sleeping. Both times they broke out a window and stole stereo equipment and backpacking stuff. Sometimes it truly sucks to live in a fairly sound-proofed apartment. Both times the insurance covered most of it and one time they recovered the stuff. Those incidents were upsetting enough. I don't know how I'd feel if I came home and found out someone had been through my house. I hope they catch them and get back at least some of your stuff. And I really hope it never happens again.

The last time I was robbed, the stereo was taken from my wife's Jeep. When it happened, after I got over the anger from being robbed, I realized that actually, the thief had been quite civil, given that he was a thief. He had carefully removed the stereo, disconnecting it instead of cutting all my wires like some would do, and more importantly, he had not cut the soft top on my wife's Jeep to get into it, which would have cost me a whole lot more to fix than replacing the stereo. (My wife had left the door unlocked) So, as far as the experience of being robbed goes, it wasn't that bad.

It's too bad he couldn't have found another line of work, because a couple of weeks after my break-in, he was shot dead by a drunk redneck whose car he was breaking into. Such are the risks of a life of crime.

should i try and dip into some rainy day money and replace my stuff, or should i wait(naively)in the hopes that my stuff will be returned? How long would you wait?

If they catch the guys who did it, and if they haven't already fenced you stuff, the cops may hold it as evidence for their trial. It might be more than a year before you get your stuff back, if ever. I'd start replacing it, and sell the old stuff if you ever get it back.

It depends on how much you miss the stuff. They got ours back the next day--he had been spotted by a neighbor who followed him home and called the cops. The next time it happened it was just the stereo and nobody saw a thing. It woudn't work without the security code so we figured they'd toss it in a lake so we went ahead and replaced it right away.

I once knew someone who's car was stolen. She got it back after about a month but it was in pretty bad shape and was so nasty (filth) that it had developed a permanent stench. She was sorry she got it back even though her insurance wasn't going to pay because her boyfriend left the keys in it.

I'm getting the impression that no one wanted to open my link for some odd reason. Here's part of the story:

Burglar with fetish given 20-year term
By SUSAN PALMER
The Register-Guard

A Eugene man with a fetish for women's dirty underwear was sentenced to 20 years in prison Tuesday for committing a string of burglaries while on probation for similar crimes.

James Edward Bloss, 23, pleaded guilty July 12 to burglarizing five houses or apartments and to one count of attempted burglary. He broke in to steal women's underwear and credit cards, which he used to pay for access to Internet pornography. He also called phone-sex lines from the homes he burglarized.

Bummer, alright. People who haven't been burglarized sometimes don't realize how "violated" you can feel.

Just a tip for those of you with youngin's: Be sure and safely store away jewelry and other valuable whenever you hire a babysitter. Some of the nicest teenage girls can have habits or druggy boyfriends who need lots of money to stay high. Always look around for possible stollen valuables when you get home. We learned the hard way.

Oh, yes...Browning 9mms (Highpower) are my favorite!

Violin I opened it and read the story.....pretty sick sex freak we've got there.

Phil, not only do people have to hide their jewelry from babysitters...they've got to hide their guns too.

Poor thing!
I went to go see Opie last night because I had been so worried about him and to help him pack before he went on his business trip today. He was packing his carry on bag and he ask me, "where is my game boy??" I REALLY HATE THEIVES! Not only did they take his computer, x box, dvds and x box games, but also his game boy advanced, game boy color, and 4 game boy games. He also realized after he left that he had not seen his $50 set of headphones, those too may also have been stolen.

I just don't understand. Why does bad stuff have to happen to good people? And how can people with any morals or even a conscious live their life by being a crook?

Just When You Don't Need It
I Had my car broken into once 2 days before I was to drive to Killington, VT to go snowboarding. They smashed out the WHOLE back window to get at my speakers. Luckely, I got a replacement window in time for the trip.

Good news
Land lord found me today...said they caught an african american checking 3 buildings doors and finally going into these 2 girls townhouse...the cops were called and he was found walking out the front door with a laptop and pocket full of jewlery. The land lord also remembers seeing the red blazer he was driving the morning of my break-in. I went and pulled all the info i could off the "perps" vehicle for my own records...license plate #..make, model, vin #, tire size and brand...Top of front windsheild reads BOO - BOO...vanity tag says BT and jenn jenn...has an elementary school pickup decal with his daughters name....i feel like a pissed off mobster that keeps the info and waits...the fuel door was already open..looks like another victim got to the car...lol...I SWEAR I DIDN"T DO ANYTHING TO IT......but boy god i wanna...but i won't stoop to his level
