OM!

I read the old Kayak thread and you were contemplating a Santa Cruz. Did you get it? how do you like?

For my wife, two kids and myself we are contemplaing a

NECKY Gannett II (tandem)

and an Antigua (Wilderness Systmes??) or Santa Cruz (Necky)

both with Rudders and storage hatches.

Day trips, some overnight, flatwater, tidal river and inlets.

ooops..... forgot to frame the question.

Does anyone here do any family kayaking? My kds are 7 and 4 . ..still too young to be in their own boats.

Looking for any input.

Om --

You probably never saw this (Rad let me know you were out of town until monday, see above).

But now its just TOO LATE!

Went to the summer sale at a major canoe kayak place.

Picked up two boats on consignment.

1) Wilderness Systems "Shaman" [n.b. Om, that should appeal to you . . .Shaman]. This was a model year 2000 boat never been used boat. List $900, purchased for 600. It has a rudder, and dry storage and flotation bladder.

2)A Wilderness Systems, "Pamlico Excel" Tandem. This double is a 16 foot monster. (it's for e and the two kids). Also a used boat. Rudder, no dry storage. Retail +/- $950, also for $600. Had a flotation bladder, and the seller through in a custom three hole spray skirt for the cockpit.

I feel like I did okay. By the time i got through with the Yamika rack system, 4 PFDs and paddles I had to take a second mortgage, but am totally stoked (dude) for the family's new hobby!!!!!!

happy paddling! btw,,,,i love the santa cruz...perfect size and weight for me to carry and load solo, nice dry hatch for backyaking and handles well on all types of water (cept whitewater, but, if i get crazy enough for that, i will rent anyway.
