Journey to the Sierra's Dusy Basin
Akabillygoat, MtnFLyer, TrailTrekker and WLD all met at South Lake.
Our destination was Dusy Basin. The parking lot was packed and
MtnFlyer and WLD had to leave their vehicles 1.3 miles down the road
at Tyee Lakes Trailhead. Akabillygoat parked in the only spot
available. (he came up the day before to pull the permits) next to
the overflowing trash dumpster. (So much for bearboxes)
MtnFlyer and TrailTrekker pulled in around 3 am. WLD arrived around 9
am. Most of us lacked sleep. But that did not dampen our enthusiasm
one bit. We were all thrilled to be there.
After our trailhead photo we headed up the trail from South Lake. The
trail goes along the Lake for less than a mile and then goes up. And
after going up, we went up some more. And then more, even more. Until
we came to our first meadow just below Long Lake. Here we stopped for
pictures. Shortly after we arrived at Long Lake. I was amazed how
deep and blue it really was. The day seemed perfect. Absolutely
everyone and everything seemed in a good mood. Smiles were abundant!
As the birds were playing and we were being dazzled by the flowers
and streams. We stopped for lunch at Saddle Rock Lake and then made
our way up to Bishop Pass. Along the way we encountered an unseen
stream rushing below our feet. Snow Fields, and the camaraderie of a
very nice group of backpackers. Thunderstorm, fishing tips, ridge
hiking, hungry mosqitoes, and a lot of spectacular views.

The part one of the trip report is in the pictures..
