Even if we thru hike we can still see Indian Creek and ...It'll just be a lot of hiking. If I can save 3 vacation days then I will have time to do everything.

That would be

Dec 26-31
Thur Hit Trailhead in Boxley Valley and hike a bit beyond the low water bridge and camp in the woods

Friday - Hike East, day hike Indian Creek - Hike on to Kyle's Landing and meet up with the weekenders. Camp at Kyles Friday night.

Saturday - Cross the river and go to Hemmed-In-Hollow (4 hour visit) Return to Kyles to camp/party or hike east (2.5-3 miles) to spring fed water-fall above Camp Orr camp near falls (Will not camp at Orr it is a BSA facility).

Sunday - Hike east and camp near Ozark campgrounds or in the woods.

Or we could hike out to Pruitt Sunday and complete the BRT which would make for a long day but doable (miles?.

Monday hike to Pruitt from Ozark (1.5-2hrs) Shuttle cars - drive home.

Now is that ambitious enough?

Expect 35-40F nights 45-66F day temps this time of year.

The unexpected could be a low of 5F at night with sleet and rain during the day. Now that would be fun!

My Three Cents!

Actually Moz, I like the plan. However, I was thinking more of pushing the whole schedule back one day. (i.e. starting on Friday, concluding on Tuesday).

The folks driving in will be pushing it to get there the day after Christmas...some planned to spend NYE on the trail.

The entire BRT is ~ 32 miles. I haven't sorted out the sections I mentioned above.

Chilli off setting it a day or so would work.

The side trips could be dropped for those not wanting to wear the soles off their boots.

I'm out of here in 1 hour. Heading for Longs Peak in the RMNP.

actually, I think we could do it in three pretty easily. Two days have some elevation change and it would work out to have 2 eight mile days and the last day we could pull 15 (almost flat at that point)

oh Good Grief
I looks like you all will be gone and off the trail on tuesday dec 31. I'll have to go elsewhere for my 02 ending and 03 begining hike. Sorry to miss out on this trip, but I'll only have wed to hike a bit. I'll have to stay closer to home with less drive time involved.

BACPACK - tx is right, shut the heck up, unless of course you would like to join our little merry group and then of course I would like to hear your opinion, as would the rest of the group. Or you might just show up and be a freak like last year. But it would be a lot more normal if ya just joined in from the start. I know you might not believe this, but you are welcome.

We will be there Friday or maybe thursday night, but we have to head on out, Sunday around noon. Mrs. Stalker has to work on Monday. We are for whatever, as long as we are able to hook up with ya all, and work it out that we can leave on Sunday.

The answer is yes. Scroll up the thread about 15 posts or so and you will see the trip plan the mozark posted. We will probably begin on the Friday after Christmas and finish up on Tuesday or Wednesday. Some of us are planning to spend New Years Eve on the trail.

I may do the river trail at the same time as the through hike. I would still be able to hook up with the group at a few places and maybe spend some time exploring Indian Creek. I didn't really care for the section from Boxley to Ponca and I have hiked the BRT from Ponca to Kyles too many times lately. I wouldn't mind doing the river trail some other time. The water level just has to be right and I want it to cool down quite a bit. I know Mozark said he would like to do it.

good thing about the Buffalo is that there are various options that would allow various groups to link up at different times

My original though was that I wanted to thru hike this. I am going to follow the plan moz suggested. We can decide where and when we can link up from there. Sounds like we might have quite a few on and off the trail as we go.
