OPIE, I know you have some knowledge of trucking matters.

Is it customary to tip the driver of the freight truck that delivers some freight to your home?

I have about 600 pounds of scaffolding coming today.

YOu tip the truck its going to be a B&%Ch to straighten up.....

Stovie by understanding they are at a minimum supposed to Tailboard all their stuff. If they help me offload stuff I usually drop a couple of bucks to them

no...if it's an LTL company he is required to put it in your garage if the truck has a lift gate (more $$), if it's a standard height truck, he may only bring it to the back and require you to unload it.
If he's a nice guy and helps you out you can offer to buy him lunch, alot of guys like that...most though will decline the money.

He did help me unload from the big rig into the back of my truck.

I was the last one on his run and I asked him if it was beer time now.
He sid hell yes. LOL

I gave him a few bucks to buy him a few beers. He seemed surprized, but pleased.

If you can spare it then what the heck?

People always like to know that they are appreciated...share the love when you get a chance. When I was a young fella and had my house built about 15 yrs ago, I went to the house twice a week and had a big bbq for everyone there working on the house. They always thought it was awesome and sometimes they called their wife and asked them to come and eat too!

MDSHiker - Sounds like a good idea, although it appears that you were bribing them into doing a good job! If it works, fine.
LOL.
