Bag Nights For 2002 So Far.

I've probably got somewhere around 30 or so. Prolly get in another 5 or 6 before the end of the year. Maybe more, who knows?

“Plenty of good trips lately. Last weekend Yosemite although I forgot my sleeping bag, should I take two days off my total? Mt Whitney a few weeks ago. A week of camping and day hiking from Yosemite to north of Tahoe in Sept. Funny thing about that one is Kevin Brady and his brother were with a group I was gonna rendezvous with in Reno, problem was my friend had a dog so we didn't make it.

This weekend I'll be heading up to either Desolation or maybe Granite Chief, not sure of which.”

Do you do any winter camping? We should plan on doing some trips soon! I'm pretty much booked thru Nov but maybe in Dec? Ever built an igloo?”

One of the nice things about living where we do is being able to hit the coastal areas in the winter when the mountains are buried in snow. Generally speaking though, I'll be spending most winter weekends skiing up at Kirkwood. That said, I've been wanting to do some fair weather winter camping for some time. I think the only significant gear that I'm lacking is the snow shoes, beyond that, I'm good to go.”

Most recent: One night at Rio Grande Wild Rivers Recreation Area. aaaaaaaaaaah solitude.. UNTIL the following morning when like 15 hikers on a paid hiking trip preceded my trip into the gorge. Ughhhhhhhh! And the leader was a true B!TCH!!! (story and photos to come)

Second most recent: fun little two-night campout at Thousand Hills State Park, Kirksville, Missouri. Great place! Great company!”

Actually, I just tried snowshoeing for the first time last year as I'd done primarily XC skiing before that. Shoed up to Loch Leven and it was kick ass! I'd definitely push for the nicer weather, however. Those winter Sierra storms can be naaaaasty and last for days. I'm down for some coastal trips too. Where do you go? Point Reyes? Henry Coe?

“I work with a "Hoods in the woods" program, we do a 10 day wilderness trip, every month, 12 months a year..I also work as a Guide and mountaineering instructor....although I don't do as much mountaineering as I use to, I'm getten a bit beat up for that.

I am lucky, Hell, I would have been dead years ago if it wasn't for the mountains....I got the best "office" in the world.”

“Everyone probably has a different definition. My personal requirements for a "bag night" are only those backpack nights that are spent out in the wilderness miles away from my vehicle. I never include car camping or trailhead camping.”
