Just placed my second order Monday and paid for two-day shipping. Package was waiting for me last night. Any faster and I'd have received it before placing the order. Good people to do business with!

I've only bought from them once, but got what I wanted dirt cheap and the service was great. They are a good company!

Returns, yes. I had mistakenly ordered a single Komperdell pole. When I called, they told me to refuse delivery and order new poles. They credited my card fairly promptly and the new poles arrived quickly.

This order was for wicking underdrawers, so I hope it does what wicking underwear is supposed to do.

I ordered two pairs of boots for my daughters (larger sizes) since they had the good fitting ones on deep discount. I didn't open the second box until two months later, and found that the wrong brand and size was in that box. I called, nervous that they would think that I was scamming them and refuse the return, but they politely said that they would refund or exchange. That made me very happy.

Truly great they are
All my experience over the past 15 years or so with Sierra Trading Post have been wonderful. Some truly exceptional deals I don't know how they do it. You all may know it's Christian ethics at that place there, or used to be. I am not a Christian but I sure respect those who live by Christian ethics in the business world.

Tilt - such a list! you must be some sort of really brainy dude ;^)

Anybody Else Do This?
I placed an order last week for an Arc-Teryx softshell pullover, and for some odd reason I keep going back to that item in STP's site and looking at the pic.

Anybody else get this mail order anxiety?

I don't order from STP anymore. It is not that they don't send what they say, it is just that something funny has been wrong with everything. I ordered some sun glasses a few years ago. They said they would have a logo on them--they did not say it would be obnoxious. I ordered a cool max shirt for my boyfriend. They said it was a second--they did not say there was a hole in it right in the front. I bought some sandals in a small men's size which is what I wear. They were lovely sandals as advertized and they were the right size but they were not my size. I bought some name brand winter nightgowns one time--they shrunk to midget size. I got some hiking shoes and gave them to goodwill--they were a brand and size I have bought before but they had a strange cut that cut my ankles. Anyway, I gave up and quit reading the catalog.

Nope, I'm going to have the bike shop down the road do it. It'll only cost $25 and there are some adjustments that need to be made after the first months riding. They know what and how. Plus they guarentee their work, Birch doesn't.

I order something from them -STP- evry year it seems. There has never been a problem. In fact, I took back something i ordered 2 yrs back when I was up on my yearly Wyo. trip and they refunded me cheerfully.

Their customer service has been top rate to me and I love getting packages in the mail with "outdoor" goodies inside. : )

I have never had any problems with STP.. I really have to control myself when get on their web site.. they are the only ones that sell my size of boots.. i wear anywhere from a 5 to a 5 1/2.. i have yet to return a pair and i have bought several.. however i did purchase a pair for my husband and they did not fit right, they must have been sized wrong or cut wrong, whichever. but they never gave me any problems with returns.. i recently just bought a pfd for kayaking and i just love it.. but with the weather around here i cannot try it out.. the creek is frozen over. maybe i should try to slead with it instead.. hee. You must remember that they are indeed seconds and overstocks to keep that in mind.. but for the price and availiabilty I would be stupid not to purchase them... i would have to have them ordered special around here with a "special" price tag..

Ohhhhhhhh Yeahhhhhhhhh?
Hmmmmmm...overstocks and seconds, eh? I figured overstocks and last year's items, but seconds??? Maybe that's why that particular pullover was ~$39 when the rest of them were advertised as ~$59. I hope there's not a hole in it right in the front!!!

They tell you in the item description if it is a second.

I've ordered a ton of stuff from them and had two problems. One was a pot that was not as described. They paid return shipping and promptly refunded my card. The other was a Marmot fleece hat that came wrapped in a plastic bag but had a big stocking label stuck on the hat bill. It was only like a $5 item so I didn't want the hassle of returning it but the glue never entirely came off.

Both are pretty minor considering that I have dozens of sucessful orders from them, but they are not my absolute favorite e-tailer either.

The only thing we don't like about them is, as with many mail order companies, if you order shoes, and they don't fit right, you have to pay shipping to get them back to them.

Otherwise, we love them and use them all the time, just not for shoes.

I just had another unhappy experience with Sierra Trading Post and will probably not order from them again.

I ordered this watch which, as you can see, is advertised under “men’s watches”. A google search shows that it is, in fact, a ladies watch.

Here is the body of the letter I wrote to them with my return, along with copies of their own web page stating that it is a men’s watch, several pages from their competitors showing that they advertise it as a women’s watch and the Wenger page showing that the Millenia is a ladies line:

I am returning a Wenger Millenia Bracelet Watch for a refund.

The page listing the product on your web site says “Men’s Watches” on the top. When I received the watch, I couldn’t even put it over my hand. I did a google search for “wenger millenia 72365” and every single competitor’s page describes this as a ladies watch. The Wenger web site shows that the millenia is a ladies line. I did not want a ladies watch.

When I called to get a return authorization because I obviously shouldn’t be charged return shipping on a product that you described incorrectly, your employee “name edited” treated me with suspicion. She would not give me return authorization until I asked to speak to a manager. She then told me that you would do it this once, but my account would be flagged so I could not do this again. She read what she was typing into my records – something like “customer says he thought he was buying a men’s watch.” “Customer feels that it is a ladies watch.” I am not easily insulted but the impression was clear that name edited thought that I was lying.

I have enjoyed doing business with your company before, but if I cannot return a product at no cost that is inaccurately described on your website, I cannot purchase from you in the future.

They processed my return and sent me this email:

We have processed your return for the following item(s):

=============================================================

Item #: 99333-27 -- Wgr Sm Millenia Blk/gld
Qty: 1
Price: $89.95
Reason: Not As Described

=============================================================

Your Visa card has been credited.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We appreciate your
business and hope to hear from you soon.

That’s it – no rescinding of the decision not to credit me for return shipping in the future when they screw up – not even an acknowledgment of the screw up. Their web site still lists it as a men’s watch.

This was not what I expect from a company that wants my business.
