Forest fire “Anyone know anything about the fire damage in the JR Face Wilderness near Buena Vista, VA? I was looking for info on it and I found James River Face Fire The info is down the page a way. It was posted June 13. I have since heard that the area has reopened, but I was wondering how much damage was done? I'm trying to decide if a trip there is worthwhile or not. I've heard lots of great stuff about Devil's Marbleyard. Thanks” 7:25:19 PM 7/24/02 General statement “Forest fires in the east generally do not do much damage, but it will probably be quite black for awhile. By next spring it should be getting back to life.” 8:22:48 AM 7/25/02 “i haven't heard how extensive the damage was. i think they did contain it mostly to the devils marbleyard area. the natural bridge AT club in lynchburg could probably answer some of your questions. i think they maintain alot of that area.contact information.” 8:25:17 PM 7/25/02 “Hey, Thanks for the info Geo and Baume. I'll get in touch with the AT club for sure. Baume, on a side note, how was laurel fork?” 8:43:09 PM 7/25/02 “awesome! i'll post some photos and a report when i get the photos back.” 9:02:11 PM 7/25/02 Update “I got some info from Natural Bridge AT Club (thanks Baume). I thought I'd let y'all know: "The forest fire closed the AT from Petite's Gap to the James River Foot Bridge. However after the fire was contained the Forest Service kept two crews busy and they did a great job in restoring the AT to it's previous condition."” 8:55:06 AM 8/05/02
