See if you can find this book. It's titled "The Trail Guide To the Beartooths" by Bill Schneider. It lists most of the hikes and will be a great help. it costs $14.95 and amazon.com, or Barnes and Noble should both have it.

Our scanner is down or I'd send you some of the info contained in it. Plus I leave for a two week trip into the Bridger-Teton National Park on Saturday so not much time to be of help.

“jgeils, worked this morning and hiked this afternoon. Any luck finding that book on amazon.com?

Another nice loop trail is the Beartooth National Recreational Trail. The trailhead is adjacent to the Beartooth Highway and in Wyoming, but not far from the Montana border. I day hiked it last summer and if I recall it was 16-17 miles. You hike past Hauser Lake, Losekamp Lake, down Littlerock Creek and then past Stockade Lake. Fishing is fantasic and I've always seen elk, as well as moose. Bear sign, but no actual bear sighting.

Go to topozone.com and plug in 44.9453, 109.4958. Those are the coordinates for the trailhead. From there you can follow the loop around. In that area there are dozens of other trips as well.

Another great trip is what we call Rock Creek to Rock Creek. It's 19 miles and parallels the West fork of Rock Creek, then climbs over Sundance Pass, elevation 11,000 and then comes out the Lake Fork of Rock Creek. It does require a shuttle though. Spectacular scenery and good fishing as well. Moose, elk and mtn goats are usually seen.”

From Cody you'd just take the Chief Joseph Hwy to the junction with the Beartooth Hwy and turn right. You go past the Top Of The World Store and then just watch for the Beartooth Trail sign.

Cody has a campground where I'm sure you could grab a shower for a minimal fee. Other than that, you'd probably have to get a hotel. The Top Of The World Store might let you clean up there as well.”

“Thanks, you want to do that trail on a weekend sometime? If my brother can't go I may try to hook up with one or two of you guys if you want to go. I would like to do a 2 or 3 nighter. My tickets require a Saturday night stay or I would rather do the trip mid-week.”

“Generally, weekends are out for me. I work at a hospital here, Friday thru Sunday. When you settle on a date I'll see what can be worked out . . . doubtful though.”

Malinda is into her first week of orientation and liking the hospital. We went to REI yesterday and picked up hiking info and topo maps for trails in the Wasatch Front. Hoping to get out on Monday.
