Locally there was a cave in / flooding in one of our mines. Nine miners are believed trapped. They are trying to drill down to them but they have had several problems such as bit breakage. They have lowered water level about 19 ft so far by pumping.

I fear hypothermia for them. I couldn't believe it when I heard that drill broke, totally heartbreaking.

My heart is breaking. They have heard nothing from them in 24 hours.

Police have reportedly found the body of the missing St. Louis girl.

Something GOOD has to happen.

I won't give up hope.

Geezr-They also arrested the guy that abducted and killed her. He led them to the body.

Let's hope he gets what he deserves. I can't think of a punishment too severe for a person that can do that to a six year old child.

There's probably a mining engineer or two in Pa who are going to be strung up.

how did we get mixed up with a pedo thread?!

from what I understand they broke into an abandoned mine that was flooded. The maps they use are like 20 years old and just not that accurate. As of 4 hours ago they had restarted drilling but had 150 ft to go. If everything went well then they might be reaching them soon.

Tough dudes.

I think a number of Sunday morning sermons needed some last minute changes.

This is soooooooooooooooooo great. I tear up when I think about it. Guess I had no faith (bad lizs!) and thought they were goners. Well, the odds usually go that way. GREAT NEWS!!

I love this country...
This was the best news story I've seen or heard in well over a year. In China or Russia those guys would've been left for dead. Let's hear it for American optimism, inginuity, and courage! I'm truly inspired by both the rescue workers, as well as the miners. Those simple, hard-working people are the salt of the earth. The post-rescue interview with the younger guy and his wife brought tears to my eyes.

Great news after a weekend BP trip. Great courage and quick thinking on the part of the miners involved kept them alive, along with prompt action topside. Gov. Schweiker stayed there throughout coordinating state help and meeting with families. Rescue workers used ingenuity and hard work to make the rescue.

There was a piece in Time about them this week. Only one of the nine is going to go back to work in the mine. He was the foreman at the time.

Read more sources than Time...happy Time, so soft... dig on it.. his note stated he was the one who found them and got things going, but no medal, award, anything, so among other issues, Blamo... ate a bullet.
