Sorry for insulting Fritz? Why waste time feeling sorry? He's a big boy. He can take care of himself.

And once more for Goretex/Brian, I found my socks and washed them. It's Wolfmans Brother's underwear that is still missing, plus my pot gripper and Wildflower's folding knife. And Brian didn't get them; the bear got them. Let's get it straight! Everybody's trying to screw this trip up now! Just jealous because I made the July most hated list I guess. Eat your hearts out ya buncha pansies!

Hey Must Hike, how are you doing? Maybe you can tell me how Fritz liked his hammock?

Lyndy, my tent was closest to him. He wasn't full-on snoring, but there was a light sorta-kinda snore coming from his hammock about 10 minutes after he crawled in. I was having trouble sleeping that night, and remember thinking, "damn, that hammock must be pretty sweet if he crashed that fast".

Wildflower sent me an email. She flew up to Canada because her brother was having problems. Things are looking better and she'll be back on Friday and said she will post her trip report then.

I thought she had been kinda quiet. Glad that things are looking better for her brother. I will pray for energy and healing for him.

Artex, thank you for the report. I looked at the hammocks on REI.com and there are two kinds. I usually sleep on my side so I wonder whether I would be comfortable, but it certainly is something that I want to try out.

Ditto that, Lyndy. I'm due some extra $$$ soon, most of which will go to paying off credit cards, some of which will go towards new gear. I'm seriously considering getting a hammock. Though with fall and winter approaching, don't know how much use I'd get out of it until next spring. Check out the Hennessey Hammock thread, DirtyOldMan posted a pretty sweet Yahoo discussion group link about how people have customized their hammocks for winter camping and such. Good stuff.

I'll have to read the discussion. I think that summer and fall backpacking with it would be fine. I think that you would need a -20 degree down bag with dryloft to make it work in the winter. If it rained or was humid and cool, I would think that condesation would be a problem with the fly so close. I think a bigger sil tarp that you hang higher from your face might be better. I have to read Sgt. Rock's website on the subject again, also.

Enuff talk about gear and such! When's the next trip!?!?! Arrrrrgggghhhh!

Seriously, I have 2 weeks vacation left this year and would like to do a trip to the Adirondacks or White mtns. Anybody thinking along the same lines?

I hope to go to the Whites in early October. Would love to have you join me if it happens.

You should start a thread indicating what you want to do. Most folks probably aren't reading this thread anymore, except those of us that went on our trip.

The Whites in October
Perfect timing! My vacation time starts October 10th and I'm dying to get up there. If you guys do a group trip, I'm there. If not, I'm going anyway!

Wolfman's Brother (or anyone for that matter), Goretex and I may be hitting the Adirondacks on Labor Day weekend. Drop me an e-mail if you want to come with us.

Not really, only takes 4 hours to get to the High Peaks region. I imagine we'd go Saturday through Monday, but we could even leave Friday evening. Wow, us three motley guys on the trail again... Lookout!!!!

Fritz's Hennessy Review
Hey Lyndy - since Fritz is ignoring you (what did ya do to him?), I'll post my interview with him about it.

Pennsy: How'd you sleep in the hammock, Fritz?

Fritz: Ok, I guess.

Pennsy: So, is it a keeper?

Fritz: I think so.

He did wake up looking for dramamine though. I didn't sleep well so every hour I got up and swung his hammock from side to side. Maybe that is why he is being such a grouch. ;o)

Orrrr, maybe Fritz=Brian and he got a rash from Wolfman's undies?

Thanks, Pennsy. I talked to Fritz, and he is planning to try his Hennessy some more before posting a review.

I looked at Goretex's posts over at the Far Other side and I do believe, sad to say, that he is Brian.

Goretex just likes to be a wild and crazy guy on the boards. It's his inner child asserting itself.

Lyndy and all - my thoughts on the Hennessy Hammock (also posted on another thread):

I was pretty comfortable sleeping in it. (But anyone who says I was snoring is a liar.)

I need to experiment with hanging it in various configurations of "tightness" i.e. how loosely it hangs between the trees.

The instructions say to lie diagonally but I felt there was little room at either end to put my head or feet anywhere except in the middle. Also, I felt constricted by the sides pulling up around my arms.

It takes some agility to change clothes in it. I didn't use a sleeping bag, but I can imagine that getting in and out of a sleeping bag inside the hammock will be a little challenging.

Re identity of Brian
Lyndy,

I saw that post signed Brian. There is no way that would have come from Goretex. Not ever, but especially after all the hospitality you afforded him. I've known him to foam at the mouth from time to time, but I've never known him to make a direct personal attack that way.
