“My Dad used to own a motorhome. I visited him once at the place where he had it parked. We went outside to grill some steaks, and after he got them on the grill, he plopped down in a chair with a beer, and sighed, "Now this is what I call roughing it."

I have a 30' fifth wheel trailer I camp in, besides the two tents. I also own a coleman stove that's gotta be 30 years old.”

“lol at trekking poles.

I used "found" hiking sticks for several years. Now I use one my daughter bought me three years ago. I am a hiking stick person, never got into using two trekking poles.

My daughters "checked back in" at around 16 or 17 years old...Thank God.”

“Marty, it doesn't necessarily involve a 5th wheel, but his fondness for firearms (that I mentioned earlier) might give you a clue.

We've created a monster!

The "ralpher" wasn't in our group. He was the young one struggling to keep up with the other guys, in his group, that came through while we were taking our lunch break on day 1”

“Ahh yes... the old tent trailer. I remember Dad's old battle green, '68 Ford Ranch Wagon pulling one of those around. If I'm not mistaken, I think Coleman made it”

One of those great memories was hauling it up to Vancouver, then onto the ferry over to V. Island for a few days to "camp" out over there - that was about 1970 I think.... We were in a '65 Chevy Bel Air wagon then. The next year it was a brand spankin' new Chevy Townsman, which turned out to be the lemon of all lemons. With that one (in '73, on the way to Banff) we turned a beautiful Provincial Park campground into a toxic wasteland of blue smoke when the automatic choke malfunctioned. Hilarious in hindsight, but frustrating (and emarassing!) at the time....”

“Martyb - We used to do the 'Vancouver Island' family camping, in Parksville every year, for a couple of weeks. Back then it would mean, up to six hours at the ferry terminal, waiting to get on.

I don't know how my parents ever did it again, after frying on that parking lot, a couple of times. Summer road trips, with four kids in the back of the wagon? I wouldn't have the patience”

“Agree - I don't always have the patience, and we only have one kid in the back!”

“I'm thankful that my daughter is a good, and experienced traveller. Plus, we have the same taste in music, which really helps, on road trips”

“TX - Thanks. The photo page was Hobbit's idea way back when and after kicking it around, I volunteered to start it. I think it has served a meaningful purpose. I have tried to keep it simple, fun, and somewhat rustic. Also, there are a lot of great pics if you surf around.

Hodgeman - The pic with Drew Carey was about 4 or 5 years ago in the Las Vegas airport. He was very nice about it.

ldhiker - 3 marriages that I know of:
1. SARboy (trailname is now Marmot) and Trailartist (PNW).
2. Nomad and Meerkat (they live in Portland. She is from New Hampshire and came out west for some trips).
3. Goose and Skullcap

All of them are on the photo page and met on a TT outing or from exchanging email thru TT (Matt used to offer email).

It looks like things are heating up in Indiana...never know who may be next!”
