Yea, she's a keeper.....
Men use love to get sex, women use sex to get love.....

Some day perhaps people will realize that love has nothing to do with sex, although good sex has everything to do with love.

I get a kick out of all the "good Christian's" that think you can only love one person at a time, I thought we were all supposed to "love" each other????

I tell my best friend that I love him, and Tight Wad Bob, err Honey has no problem with it. This guy has been my best friend since I was 15. If I could have hand picked a big brother it would have been this guy, oh, wait I did pick him. Anyhooo, I firmly believe you can have a best friend of the opposite sex, sincerley love that person and there be nothing sexual about the relationship. I still wouldn't share a tent with the guy unless it was nessecary.

Male friends
I too like have guys as best friends. I think it may have more to do with the fact that my interests are more similar to theirs than a lot of my women friends. Although alot more women are getting involved in the great outdoors, there is still a significant number that won't sleep outside or be away from convienences such as showers, toilets, etc. My co-workers and friends are always awed at the things I do and anxiously await my stories, but I have been crawling around in the bush since I was a young kid so it doesn't seem weird to me.

stumprider - My wife is a pharmacist and says she knows what to do. I believe her.

Seriously, trust is a MAJOR thing with both of us. Along with that is how we trust each other to not show disrespect by putting ourselves in compromising situations. We both have close friends of the opposite sex and occasionally participate in activities with them. However, nothing that would be compromising or disrespectful.

my 2 cents
I have been too busy to even read TT this week so far... achhkkk
actually werking sheeesh

I have been on both sides of the situation. I have shared a tent with a guy before who was not my SO. Actually 3 different guys on several different trips. But I have unusually high self control and I have a no nonsense super communicative personality so guys know that I am not open to lunge attacks in the tent. No, you gotta talk to me first or I am with newgirl in that you will get a shove if you try anything without verbal preliminaries.
BUT, I did go on a backpack trip with a male friend who is married one time. His wife was fine with us going together for 5 days but we each had our own bivy sack for that trip. I also was in a relationship at the time and so not actually single single. I thought it was a great show of their trust in each other as well as we all had known each other for more than 15 years and she (his wife) knows what kind of person I am. When the SO actually knows who the person is and what kind of morals they have it might make a difference. Might not. Some folks just don't want to be in a situation that calls for self control and that is OK too. I just know myself that I don't tend to "do" something impulsively.
But as we can see by the accidental pregnancy rate not all folks are think before you act type people. Y'all have presented quite a bit of thoughfulness about this and I am glad to read it.

To all that want to know.
Well if I must say there is something that I learned is when another person can't give what another wants in there life there is always someone else that not only can give it to them but can make there life 1000% better then what it was before.I am makeing Evergreen very happy and yes we are seeing each other and yes we are very happy and when things get even better we are going to move out west and go backpacking almost all the time.I have been with lots of girls in my life never have I been with someone as nice open careing loveing and so kick @ss to backpack with then Evergreen. She now has the key to my heart and I too also have hers and there is nothing that is going to take that away from us.

Love you Sweething.

To save weight.

Because a limited number of tent sites are available in the area you're backpacking.

Because it's an emergency.

Thanks for reminding me of many wonderful trips from the past! Having started on the trail in the late tie-dyed 60's, I've had the chance to "loft" with a few trail bunnies. I must say the ladies I met in the woods and on the trail were some of the most down to earth, the absolute best, ever!!

Hey Phil! "This reminds me of the episode of Taxi where Latka gets stuck in his taxi with a woman during a blizzard and ends up having sex with her to share body heat" My sister was making a reference to Taxi at work the other day. The newest and youngest addition to the office pipes up, "Taxi? What are you talking about?" I guess that's what you call a generation gap. *sigh*

As for sharing tents with the opposite sex, I've shared mine. Once with a man who was my husband at the time. Once with a single guy my age. Once sandwiched between two, very young MTU students and twice with a married man. Amazingly enough, NONE of them complained about my snoring.

No bacpac, I've shared my tent with the opposite sex five times, but that is also wrong because I forgot about the trip on the Manistee River Trail this past June. I took my son Wyatt (2 1/2 years old) on his first backpack trip and I shared my tent with him. He didn't complain about my snoring either but he certainly complained about having to go to sleep.

"Men use love to get sex, women use sex to get love..... "

This is not always the way it goes.. :)

I think sleeping next to eachother for me is usually very intamate, it seems no matter what has gone on that day, you can wind down together and start over just by laying by eachother.
Of course, if I was laying by someone other than my hubby, i dont think it would even feel close to the same...

Lemme rethink my post...I describe my backpacking tent as "sleeps two very good friends" so I guess I'd prefer not to share it. Past situations were mainly in lean-tos with plenty of room. If I had an SO and he shared a tent with another chickee-do, I would NOT like it.

Well I find it hard to believe you can play strip poker with someone of the opposite sex..alone..and all be well and good. But hey who am I to question anything this guy must be a saint...or a god!

I read a story just recently about a man that was married for many a fine years meet a young thing on a planned group hike. They never did anything stayed in seperate tents *they say* but 2 1/2 years later they are married...hmmm someone one is hiding something ..somewhere...
