Big Bone Lick park may expand

State awaits appraisals of land before concluding the purchases

BOONE COUNTY - Big Bone Lick State Park could soon become much bigger.

The state is trying to buy four pieces of land near the park in southern Boone County.

For retired state Rep. Paul Marcotte, who helped get the General Assembly to allocate $2.5 million for the expansion nearly two years ago, the purchase can't come fast enough.

"It's taken a long time to get this far," Marcotte said. "I've been getting very impatient, but it takes time."

Before the state can make offers on a piece of land, it must get two appraisals, said Chris Gilligan, spokesman for the state Commerce Cabinet.”
