Hammocks
How strong do they have to be?
Additionally, what size do you have to be to perhaps purchase one?

check the manufacturers specs if ya wanna play it safe. Most are rated at 1/6 the static strength of the hammock for safety reasons/lawsuit prevention.

I am 6'2 and found the hennessy ul-asym to be just fine.
If yer really big he has a special model rated at 450 lbs and roomy for 7'er's

It's best not to be too tall. I'm 6'2" and I haven't had a problem with any of my hammock tents. As for strength, you don't really need to worry about it if you don't plan on using it for climbing.

I would strongly suggest sleeping in one before you buy one. People either seem to love them or hate them. I got my first real hammock tent in 1994, and I haven't slept on the ground since. :-)

I'm 6'4" and fit fine in my Hennessy A-sym (rated 200 pounds). I've slept in it for two canoe trips now and I really like it.

LOL at Pitts!

I've heard good things about their stuff. I think they had a dispute with Heennessey over one product,

I think it was on White Blaze that I read about them working with Sgt. Rock (thus, the "no sniveler")

Good lord, that pic! That's what I hate about the post-Hennessy hammock-tent scene. Gone are the pioneer days; now we have wannabe gear head left-footed fruit-cakes like that guy who represent the hammocking crowd. Bleh.

And the "self tensioning line" for sale - what a joke. Learn how to work with knots and rope for crissakes. What a bunch of nancy-boys.

I am looking at the Mosquito or Expedition ones

I am thinking about trying one out just to see how they work. It isn't like I don't have enough shelters..lol

I have a Blue Ridge Bivy Hammock. My only complaint (other then weak spreader bars) is that water can get under the fly in a storm.

I don't like even slightly wet sleeping bags. That one doesn't appear to seal up tightly.

Hammocks are cooler in summer but cold in the cooler/colder months. Needs insulation underneath in cold weather.

Nice being off the ground so you don't have to listen to a bunch of critters sniffing thru your tent.

I like bringing my gear in the tent with me. Difficult to do in a hammock.

Hey Ewker, thats kinda like The Clark which is what I use. I bought it from Crazypace. I love it. Especially the built in stuff sack. I can have it set up and taken down in minutes.
