this is a tent im thinking of getting. its light and very very cheap. id use it only in the summer with hopes that it didnt rain. but it has to be better then the tent i have now.
geobeet i wish i could afford the tent you lent my but ill have to save that idea for when my kids are out of suumer camp (i swear it cost more and more every summer)
so what do you think?

For the price I can't see why not. If it only lasts a year or two you could throw it out and buy another. My son might even want one of those.

I think a very good option here is the Exponent Inyo 2 for $84.

The tent you are looking at has fiberglass poles and does not appear to have a full rainfly (which is why it is only 3 lbs. In a heavy rain I don't know how dry you could stay. I also question the weight...may be "rounded off".

If you do buy it, seam seal the heck out of it...two applications, inside and out on all untaped seams.

thanks Phil,
that is a nice tent. but even that one weights 4lbs. but you are correct about having to seal it.

so who knows maybe ill get the cheapy for the rest of this summer and then when i hit the lottery next year i can get that tent i have always wanted!!

:P

That's the texsport knollwood bivy you can find on ebay for $1-30 all the time.
The link may only take you part of the way on that site, look for texsport knollwood.

The reviewer put a rain cover over the front and said it would work, otherwise the front zippers leaked like crazy.

Check for a Coleman Outlet Store near you. I have found the Inyo 2 for as low as $60. About 4 # but much better made.

Wild flower, or whatever name you're using this week, I would recommend you look at the MSR Micro Zoid when you get the money ($150.00). It is under 3 lbs and kept me dry as the proverbial popcorn fart in a driving rain. It is a great tent for those of us who are vertically challenged. I would not recommend it for anyone over 5'9". The only down side is that you will not be able to keep your pack in it with you.

Well, now that ya mentions it (LOL), no, I meant that reading the review of the original tent turns me way off. You slipped your popcorn stuff in there just ahead of me, you old f...!

Hey WF, not many people have a tent that weighs under four pounds and comes complete with its own built-in shower!

You might look around for the predecessor of the MSR Microzoid: the Walrus Microswift.

I saw some new ones advertised on gear trade recently.

Looking at that link WF, its hard not to think there is a big catch.

Walrus Micro Swift
I've got a Micro Swift and like it very much. It's kept me dry in several good raintorms. I'm 6'2" and it's just long enough.

Backcountry Equipment has some left at: http://www.backcountry-equipment.com/tents/microswift.html

You might want to check out http://www.hennessyhammock.com/2002_catalogue.htm and look at their deals on the expedition models. At 2 1/2 pounds with weather protection and mosquito netting, they are a great deal at their sale price of 89 bucks (79 for blemished models).

In my brief dealings with them, they have been a great company.
