BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Italian officials said Wednesday an attack on Italian military police headquarters in Nasiriya that killed at least 18 Italians and eight Iraqis earlier in the day would not deter their country's commitment to helping form a new Iraqi government.

Officials said 12 of the dead were Italian Carabinieri, or paramilitary police, four were other soldiers and two were Italian civilians filming a documentary on the Italian military in Iraq.

Iraqi hospital sources said eight Iraqis were killed

Presidency of George W. Bush --the first 36 months

Banned Partial Birth Abortion

Killed the Kyoto Global Warming Treaty.

Killed U.S. involvement in the International Criminal Court.

Killed the U.S. - CCCP ABM Treaty that was preventing the U.S. from deploying our ABM defenses.

Reversed Clinton's move to strike Reagan's anti-abortion Mexico Policy.

Killed Clinton's CO2 rules that were choking off all of the electricity surplus to California.

Pushed through TWO raises for our military.

Increased Defense Dept funding which had deteriorated during the previous 8 years

Currently pushing for full immunity from lawsuits for our national gun manufacturers.

Ordered Attorney-General Ashcroft to formally notify the Supreme Court that the OFFICIAL U.S. government position on the 2nd Amendment is that it supports INDIVIDUAL rights to own firearms, NOT a leftist-imagined *collective* right.
Told the United Nations we weren't interested in their plans for gun control.

Successfully executed 2 wars: Afghanistan and Iraq. 50 million people who had lived under tyrannical regimes now live in freedom.

Changed the tone in the White House, restoring HONOR and DIGNITY to the Presidency

Reorganized bureaucracy...after 9/11, condensed 20+ overlapping agencies and their intelligence sectors into one agency: the Department of Homeland Security.

Initiated discussion on Social security and individual investment accounts.

Improving govt. efficiency with .8 million jobs put up for bid...weakening unions and cutting undeserved pay raises. Wants merit based promotions/raises only.

Executed a WAR ON TERROR by getting world-wide cooperation to track funds/terrorists (has cut off much of the terrorist's funding and captured or killed many key leaders of the al Qaeda network)

Stopped foreign aid that would be used to fund abortions.

Supported and upheld the ban on abortions at military hospitals

Signed E.O. reversing Clinton policy of not requiring parental consent under the Medical Privacy Act

Orchestrated Republican control of the White House, the House AND the Senate.

GWB signed an executive order enforcing the Supreme Court's Beck decision (re: union dues being used for political campaigns against individual's wishes)

Brought back our EP-3 intel plane and crew from China without any bribes or bloodshed

Started withdrawing our troops from Bosnia and has announced withdrawal of our troops from Germany and the Korean DMZ.

Turning around an inherited economy in recession.

Passed tough new laws to hold corporate criminals to account as a result of corporate scandals.

Reduced taxes on dividends and capital gains

In process of eliminating IRS marriage penalty.

Increased small business incentives to expand and to hire new people

Reorganized the INS in an attempt to safeguard the borders and ports of America and to eliminate bureaucratic redundancies and lack of accountability.

Signed trade promotion authority

Committed US funds to purchase medicine for millions of men and women and children now suffering with AIDS in Africa

Urging Medicare Reform

Urging federal liability reform to eliminate frivolous lawsuits

Supports class action reform bill which limits lawyer fees so that more settlement money goes to victims

Submitted comprehensive energy plan--awaits Congressional action (works to develop cleaner technology, produce more natural gas here at home, make America less dependent on foreign sources of energy, improve national grid, etc.)

Endorses and promotes The Responsibility Era ("In a compassionate society, people respect one another and take responsibility for the decisions they make in life. My hope is to change the culture from one that has said, if it feels good, do it; if you've got a problem, blame somebody else -- to one in which every single American understands that he or she are responsible for the decisions that you make; you're responsible for loving your children with all your heart and all your soul; you're responsible for being involved with the quality of the education of your children; you're responsible for making sure the community in which you live is safe; you're responsible for loving your neighbor, just like you would like to be loved yourself. " -----this quote was too good to leave out)

Started the USA Freedom Corps

Challenged the United Nations to live up to their responsibilities and not become The League of Nations ( in other words, completely irrelevant)

Nominated strong, conservative judges to the judiciary.

Changed parts of the Forestry Management Act to allow necessary clean-up of the national forests in order to reduce fire danger.

As part of the national forests clean-up, the President restricted judicial challenges (based on the Endangered Species Act and other challenges) and removed the need for an EIS (Environmental Impact Statement) before removing fuels/logging to reduce fire danger.

Significantly eased field-testing controls of genetically engineered crops.

Yep, pretty standard. You'll always get a mixed bag of acomplishments that no one will agree with completely. I see some good things there and I see some bad things, but of course it's based on my own views.

I was glad to see the partial birth thingy go through.

Many of these things are subjective. For instance, which side of the abortion issue you stand on would determine whether you feel some of the items he signed into law is a positive or a negative. So, what's the point here?

I am not against abortion in non-birth control instances but there should be limits IMHO. Birthing a near full term baby (that if the head came out it would live) up to the head and then sucking it’s brains out until it’s head caves in crosses those limits. I liken it to the way the NRA gives No ground whatsoever out of fear of some type of domino effect. The pro abortionists seem to fear if they lose this one thing they will lose the whole ball of wax next. It is really a non-issue due to the fact that it has a clause in it allowing it if the health of the mother is at risk. Note the “health”, not just the “physical health”. If the mother will be bummed out by having to take care of a child and not being able to go out on Friday nights, some pro-abortion doc somewhere will sign off on it to be done.

B.S. propaganda. I allow for an unethical doctor doing this, but if a woman comes in for an elective 3rd trimester abortion (i.e. for any reason other than immediate and severe consequences to physical health), 99.999% of the time they will be turned down. The medical community is capable of policing itself - we don't need legislation on this. And yes, as much as it pains me to agree with a 'slippery slope' argument, in this case it is exactly that.

“B.S. propaganda.”

Just a little color there on my part. Guilty as charged.

“I allow for an unethical doctor doing this, but if a woman comes in for an elective 3rd trimester abortion (i.e. for any reason other than immediate and severe consequences to physical health), 99.999% of the time they will be turned down.”

I can agree with this.

“The medical community is capable of policing itself - we don't need legislation on this.”

This would depend. If a woman went in for an elective 3rd term in San Francisco, let’s face it, she’ll have a better chance than if she was in, say, Texas. I feel there will be places that specialize in it. Unreasonable to say?

NEW YORK (AP) -- A 25-year-old from Georgia who was distraught over President Bush's re-election apparently killed himself at ground zero.

Andrew Veal's body was found Saturday morning inside the off-limits area of the former World Trade Center site, said Steve Coleman, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

A shotgun was found nearby, but no suicide note was found, Coleman said.

Veal's mother said her son was upset about the result of the presidential election and had driven to New York, Gus Danese, president of the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association, told The New York Times in Sunday's editions.

Friends said Veal worked in a computer lab at the University of Georgia and was planning to marry.

"I'm absolutely sure it's a protest," Mary Anne Mauney, Veal's supervisor at the lab, told The Daily News. "I don't know what made him commit suicide, but where he did it was symbolic."

Police were investigating how Veal entered the former World Trade Center site, which is protected by high fences and owned by the Port Authority.

B.S. How could it be a protest with no suicide note. His family and boos are exploiting a tragic and needless death for their own political motives. If he was that despondent and suicidal, they had a duty to see to it that he got immediate mental health care, even if it meant seeking an involuntary commitment. Shameful.

It's not definite that he killed himself over Bush being elected. No matter what the reason was, he was mentally ill, and shouldn't have done it. I guess he didn't hear Clinton telling upset democrats to get over it already (to paraphrase).

If he was against the war, he could have made a difference and become a humanitarian and given aide to victims of the war in Iraq or our troops that have come home injured. It's too bad that no one realized what he was up to before he committed suicide.

That's one way to clean out the "bad/crazy" gene pool. It's shameful how his family used his suicide as some kind of political statement. Maybe he killed himself because of the situation in Sudan...or because the Canadians bought the 4 useless subs from Britain.

Everytime someone commits a criminal act, the family says that the person was wonderful. In this case, they even said his fiance was wonderful. Does a person with a wonderful life and finace kill themselves over politics?

From a newspaper article:

Mauney said that other than the war and the election, she didn't know what might have been troubling Veal.

"I told his mother there are some people so sensitive and intelligent and passionate they don't belong in the world the way it is today," she said.

"And if this was something he had to do, it was heroic that he chose the World Trade Center."

Not everyone felt the same way.

"Enough people died in here," said Neil Thomas, 56, a visitor from Michigan. "Nobody else needed to die here."
******* *********** *********

This Mauney person was his supervisor. What an idiot to say that this guy and people like him aren't meant for this world. Is she trying to provoke more suicides? Then to say it's heroic to kill yourself if you pick the World Trade Center to do so, this girl is a real nutcase. If anything, it's an insult to people that died there that didn't want to die. Anyone of those people would have been glad to change places with him and be alive today.

Bush wants 'romance' of fighting on front line
By Tabassum Zakaria in Washington

March 14, 2008 09:42am

Article from: Reuters

US President George W. Bush has said he would love to fight in Afghanistan if he was younger.

President Bush suggested fighting on the frontline was "romantic" during a video conference with US military and civilian personnel in the war-torn country.

"I must say, I'm a little envious," he said.

"If I were slightly younger and not employed here, I think it would be a fantastic experience to be on the front lines of helping this young democracy succeed.

"It must be exciting for you ... in some ways romantic, in some ways, you know, confronting danger. You're really making history, and thanks."
