Dehyrating Pasta “Anyone have any tips?” 6:11:27 PM 8/08/02 “Pasta dries very easily, so long as there is no cheese involved. I've dehydrated cooked sphagetti and sauce together, rehydrated on the trail, and it tasted as good as I had just made it. Good luck!” 7:42:17 PM 8/08/02 Hey Artex... “I have dehydrated lasagna with cheese and all. Its g\GREAT rehydrated.” 9:01:54 PM 8/08/02 “You guys are making me hungry and I just ate. I need to dig our dehydrator out of the closet.” 9:03:11 PM 8/08/02 “Oh, hell, I thought you were talking about making it from scratch!” 9:03:32 PM 8/08/02 I do that too “I make all my own pasta...I'm a real food snob...I'm gonna experiment and try to dehydrate wine and then rehydrate it on the trail...this way, I can bring one of my classic Inglenooks and not have to worry about packin glass.” 9:15:34 PM 8/08/02 “I've dehydrated pasta primavera (sp?)--veggies & cheese with pasta and rehydrates well.” 9:31:50 PM 8/08/02 “I dehyrdrated lasagna one time and it turned out to be good.. it didnt kill us anyway. If you want to dehyrdrate lasagna you can buy the noodles that you dont have to boil, you just bake the lasgna like you would do normally without boiling the noodles first. I think this helped out in the dehyrdating process.” 10:23:55 PM 8/08/02 “Thanks. I am trying to do these little ravioli things with spinach and mushrooms inside. Also some spicy noodles I found at the store.” 11:50:44 PM 8/08/02 slice it thin “or something. i've found you can dehydrate anything as long as it's cut small enough.” 11:58:09 PM 8/08/02 Cheese, etc. “Some things have to have the fat patted off them with papertowel periodically throughout the dehydration process. I've even dehydrated sausage this way without any problems. Anything with a low fat content will dehydrate easier.” 8:29:41 AM 8/09/02 “They sell dehydrated pasta at the grocery store. I comes in celophane bag.” 12:42:31 PM 8/09/02 “Got a dehydrator, eh Didjfan? Cook it ala dente otherwise it will overcook when you rehydrate it with boiling water. Also, I have had problems dehydrating stuffed things like Raviolis because the insides don't get the hot air while the outside does. Seems to take forever. Let me know how it works out for you.” 12:45:55 PM 8/09/02 “Barilla sells a dry tortellini with different fillings. A bag contains 4 servings at 2 1/4 oz each. Cooked in 10 min in boiling water with a little to drain off. I tried the three cheese flavor and it came out good.” 12:49:44 PM 8/09/02 “Oh and use 1 1/4 cups water and cover the pot.” 1:00:55 PM 8/09/02 “So suppose that if I'm making something that has pasta in it, like say, chili mac, I should keep the pasta separate from the chili stuff when I'm dehydrating them and mix them together in the bag?” 1:29:01 PM 8/09/02 “It works pretty much the same either way bit.” 3:19:17 PM 8/09/02 “OK. I'm gonna try making (and dehydrating) my own chili mac this weekend.” 3:20:23 PM 8/09/02 “Noodles and Ravioli turned out good. Added some dried black bean mix I got from Henry's Market to the noodles. I'm trying to just toss a dish into boiling water until hot (not to cook). Getting ready to do Mangos and Hash browns next, any heads up before I start? Thanks all” 6:18:16 PM 8/09/02 “Hashbrowns are sorta messy but worth it!” 6:24:25 PM 8/09/02 “Mangoes take a little longer than other fruits I've done. They turned out pretty well though. I just sliced them and dehydrated them.” 7:25:09 AM 8/10/02
