The CBC is reporting a mad cow disease death in Saskatchewan. They think the guy caught it in England. Some other people were possibly exposed. Health officials say that spread risk is low.

Now that's sensitive and compassionate. Did you go to the George Bush School of How To Be A Good Neighbor?

i've stuck to fish and poultry only for the last 10yrs but they arent clean either.I think beef is the most contaminatedin the whole 'assembly line' process tho.

JOSH MAN, we've got West Nile virus in Canada too....I don't think anybody died from it though.

Trik1, I think you die if you eat beef infected with the Mad Cow disease. 24 Europeans died since 1995.

NJ CJD as it's properly known is not necessarily caused by eating contaminated beef (though that's the best theory at present).
Trouble is, there are a whole host of problems with the theory. There are a pocket of cases of NV CJD in Poland where BSE has never been present. However, there is a massive chemical plant nearby which contaminated the local land with, I think, magnesium, combined with a diet either high or low (I forget which) in copper, and bingo, you develop NV CJD.
The theory goes that chemicals used as pesticides on animals (poured on the back) are high in magnesium (if it is magnesium). This filters through to the human food chain, and if you are high or low in Copper, you have a higher chance of developing NV CJD.
The other problem is that many fruit and veg are treated with the same magnisium rich pesticides. This could be the reason why a vegetarian in UK developed NV CJD. It would also explain how calfs are born with BSE from herds free of the desiese.
All conjecture, all thoeory, but there are big enough holes in the BSE/NV CJD case that it is worthy of concern and further investigation. Unfortunately in the UK, the government after so long denying the link, is now set on the link having been infected meat, solely. Thus, no desire to look deeeper.
Forgive any errors in specific details, as I'm at work and typing from memory

I think the presence of prions in the blood and body tissues of CJD victims is pretty conclusive.
