just a few more hours...
at work and then I hit the road. No real backpacking, but I do get to swing by Yellowstone and the Tetons...plus n. cal, oregon, idaho, the rest of wyoming, south dakota, minnesota, wisconsin, illinois and indiana.

The girlfriend got a full ride for her MBA, but the catch was the program is in N. Indiana. So now my brother and I are driving out my old car to her. We are front loading the trip with time off in the west and rockies and then hauling ass across the midwest.

I can't wait.

Have a great time! We just did the AZ, NV, UT, ID,WY,MT and back. Hope you get to see all the things we did! We weren't coming back to CA til we saw grizzly and moose. Also, watch your speed in WY. They drive a metallic beige car, and they enforce the speed limit. Have fun!

SN- thanks for the tips on the WY cops...lucky for me I am driving the "old" car, I'd hate to see what I'd drive out in those wide open spaces in the new one.

I am starting to wonder about wildfires in OR...but I guess we'll just have to see since we hit the concrete trail in about an hour...

Hauling a$$ across the midwest
You know, Stephen King wrote Children of the Corn after a drive across the midwest.

Have a good trip.

Just An Idea
You know...
On the way back you could...cough...hack...break down somewhere near a trailhead...ahem...snarf...for a few days. And if so don't forget to bring your fully loaaded backpacks having enough provisions to pull you through those days.

I just got back late last night from my trip out to Indiana by way of most of the north western states...

What a great experience!

I basically used the trip as a scouting mission for future vacations--I am already thinking about Yellowstone and the Tetons for next summer--and found parts of the US that I want to keep coming back to for a long time to come. Needless to say, I'm very jealous of you Wyoming/Idaho/Montana folks.

We put about 3600 miles to go only 1/2 across the country--so we got to see a lot of the Northwest before we made the push out to the midwest. Saw all the tourist sights-old faithful, the yellowstone falls, devil's tower, Mt. Rushmore, Wall Drug--but also got to do a little day hiking and exploring in some places off the beaten path.

Oh yeah, it was also good to see ms. bongofreek for the weekend...bummer to get on the plane last night. But all in all a worthwhile time, and lots of fun.
