Well, much to the GROANS of some who hate multiple threads on the same basic events.. heh.. I need to target this thread to meet the needs of those who want some response from the judges committee.

Regarding Tc2 >>

1) Define the categories.

2) Define the rules.

3) Determine the times/days when food will be judged.

4) Answer any/all questions in this regard for those who are patiently waiting for some answers to their Tc2 concerns.

Thankies!

I liked the format from last year.

We had two categories:
Dinners
Desserts

Rules:

1. Must be able to pack ingrediants/cooking material in on at least a 10 mile hike & overnighter.

2. Meals must be made from scratch.

3. Every contestant must have copies of recepie available to the judges.

Judging will be based on the following:

1. Taste
2. Presentation
3. Creativity
4. Preparation
5. Other/Bonus

Categories will be based on a point basis, 20 pts. per category, 100 points overall.

Times & dates, I have no idea.

These are just my opinions, I want to see what the other judges think so we can come to a consensus.

Late:

I am considering asking everyone who competes to log in a 10 miler in order to qualify.. fair?

Why drag the keg? It will taste just as good at the trailhead!

2. Meals must be made from scratch.

So does that mean MRE meals can't be entered?

many ways in to the lodge
I vote no.
Opie-
You might be surprised how small grills are- and they can be "hidden"-and slipped past trusting folks-
Just think about how David Copperfield makes an airplane disapear.
It's all in the presentation.

Well the other thing.. I think we need to consider multiple categories.. will be too many entries to go with only dinners and desserts.. Can the judges get together and discuss this asap?.. :)

Assistants?
"I sent this question to TD but perhaps you can field it here. Can a contestant have assistants?"

i'm not a Judge, but i would vote in favor of assistants, because cooking is always more fun with more people involved. (okay, not ALWAYS, but you know what i mean...) i don't really know how serious and competitive this thing is, but the main idea is to have fun...right?

I don't have a problem with someone having an assistant. I just don't want to referee the fight over who gets the prize.

Also, maybe we could get all of the cooks in one central location this year to cut down on all of the travel from site to site. This would allow the judges to watch more of the preperation.

Each "team" could identify the "head cook" to limit the squabble on prizes.

I hope we can have assistants because I had planned on being OPIE's!

Just to go ahead and let you know, I'll be the one to take the prize :)

You should take it Miss Opie, because you will be the one who has to pack it out.

As a judge, I will require two assistants myself. Here are the specs: 2 females, between the ages of 21-25, can weigh no more than 120#, and must be former or current "dancers".

ok, BB. I will check my former client list and pick the best two.

Blonde, Brunette or Redhead??

Then again you go for a rainbow (all three).

I think he is working in Nashville. By the time he drives into work and back home, he is adding another 3 hours to his "normal" day. Also, I think he has another project or two going on.

I think he is stockpiling for fall backpacking.

Hey folks, I just got home from a two week vacation in Oregon.

I think the rules should stay the same as last year. The only thing that I want to change is the location of the cooking. I think that everyone should set up in one general area so that walking to multiple sites will not be necessary. I would like to be able to watch preparation.

Everything needs to be food that can be prepared on an average backpacking trip and something that anyone could cook. No gas grills. No MRE's.

For me, simplicity of preparation, presentation, and taste are factors that I am going to judge highly on.

I agree katibug. I e-mailed Towndawg and said the same thing about everybody being in the same location so that we could watch the preparation.
