Sequoia NP Photo ContestView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 4 of 4 messages posted.
Woo hoo! “Just got an email from my dad that the photo he sent in to a photo contest (?) of his family in front of a Sequoia NP entry sign in the 40's was selected as the best photo representing the decade of the 40's. Apparently, they're going to have an issue of the park paper displaying the winning photos. (I think this was only Sequoia, not the entire park system.) I know I can count on you TTers to keep your eyes peeled for this stuff in print and on the internet (in case I or my dad miss it!). I saw a copy of the photo that he sent in - it really is pretty cool! (If I can get a scan of it while in Montana next week, I'll post it on Webshots....)” 10:21:52 AM 8/13/02 “Cool stuff!! :-)” 5:32:42 PM 8/13/02 “I have a box full of pics of grand canyon, cascades, sequoia, yosemite parks. These pics were taken from bout 1900 -1940!!!Theres even a pic of a very narrow, rough cut, dirt road that they call Tioga pass!!There's also a bunch of postcards from that time from these parks.I got this box from someone who was gonna throw it all in the trash!! Included are tin pictures-one with a civil war soldier in it!! There are many family portrait photos in gilded cardboard frames from the 1890's.Also many stamped postcards from 1899-1910!!Postcards(labeled as Private Mailing Card on the back) were intro'd in 1898 and the author on mine states this in her writing!!Very cool stuff. also included is a family tree chart that goes back to the1600's in europe!!!Its a shame that no family member wanted this stuff but i am glad I saved it.” 6:01:02 PM 8/13/02 It's Out! “Apparently, the special section of the Sequoia-Kings Canyon NP newspaper (the ones they hand out when you enter the park) displaying the winning photos is out, or nearly so. My dad got several copies from the Park Service printed on heavier-than-usual paper (for better quality). It's a pretty cool photo (the one representing the 40's). Let me know if you visit the park and see it!!” 11:04:32 AM 4/29/03
